About Sue Smith
I am really passionate about our beautiful county of Kent and love sharing the quintessential English houses and cottages with our holiday guests, as well as the diverse choice of things to enjoy here. I live, work and love it here, and know you will too. We look forward to welcoming you to share our wonderful county soon.
Sue Smith purchased this Chateau / Country House in 2017
Why Sue Smith chose Rolvenden
Combining the old with the new makes this house a fun, historic property to visit. Finished to a high standard you'll enjoy it's style & comfort. A true family "home-from-home" holiday location.
What makes this Chateau / Country House unique
Your own pool to cool off in or to start your day with a refreshing swim, completely enclosed for privacy. Can be heated on request at an extra charge. Secluded rear garden for the children to play safely. This house is a beautiful Wealden Hall house indicative to Kent and so named after the wood used to build them from the Weald of Kent. Dating from 1495, "Kingpost" is one of the best examples of a Wealden Hall house remaining in the UK. During the Great Plague the whole of the "Stryte" in Rolvenden was burnt to the ground and amazingly two properties survived, the post office, as it's now know, and "Kingpost". There is still a friendly dispute as to which is the oldest. Ideally situated in the heart of the county for easy access to the many major tourist attractions it has to offer you, Canterbury, Sissinghurst and Tunbridge Wells. We can arrange an evening of wine tasting with "Discover the Vine"s very own expert Rowena Hawtin, at the house. If it's French , Italian or something more world wide Rowena can advise and teach you all about the regions and grapes which influence the taste.
100% refund if cancelled at least 60 days before arrival date.
Experience of staying at Rolvenden
The following is an honest view of our stay. Although a few gripes our stay was enjoyable.
This is a substantial and interesting house very conveniently situated. Generally well equipped. Gardens very well kept and spacious and child friendly. Reasonably priced accommodation.
Manager and cleaning person were friendly when we met them.
Previous tenants had not put bins out so bit of a stack of rubbish which probably should have been dealt with.
Washing machine unfortunately had broken and could not be repaired whilst we were there. Sink in en-suite downstairs has drainage problems.
Would I recommend this as a place to stay - yes.
Lovely family friendly home
This is a large family home with everything you could need
You can tell they have put a lot of thought into making there guests feel at home
Plenty of toys for children
The rooms are very spacious and comfortable
Would highly recommend
Lovely home we had a lovely stay
Its as if it was built for a family get together - Amazing
Our weekend at Kingpost was filled with fun, comfort and happiness from the moment we pulled onto the driveway.
I rented this property to surprise my Mum for her 60th (she though my Dad was taking her out for a meal that night) and she couldnt believe how fantastic this old, cottage style home was for the price. We were a group of 8 adults with a 1 year old in tow and made immediate use of large kitchen area to cook up dinner and play cards. Each bedroom felt like it had its own story, from the grand master bedroom to the recently decorated double to the almost original dark, thick beamed double. The following morning was met with more merriment as we all congregated in the living room to open presents, the living room was possibly my favourite, it reminded me of a meeting room from a Bond movie, dark wooden walls with a fireplace bigger that some of the rooms in my own house!
Set in the countryside of surrounding tonbridge and sissinghurst we spent the day at Sissinghurst castle gardens and then came back to the Kingpost's pool, we didnt pay the additional fee to have it heated and kept our faith in the sun which, luckily, didnt let us down!
All in all I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a relaxing weekend away, I have used alot of Air bnbs but this was my first time using HomeAway and its fair to say that this house (and the owner herself) has done more than enough for me to use it again and again.
Fantastic from the get go and would highly recommend.
Aaron & Family
What a perfect way to spend a family birthday together. The house is such a spacious place for all to enjoy - my favourite room is the big kitchen/diner..
It has so much to offer whether it's for a weekend break or a long relaxing week or more! Choose from a pool day to a late dinner al fresco after a full day out with family and friends. It caters for everyone.
There's so much to do and see right on your door step or just a short drive away, the location is perfect for Kent & Sussex.
But I doubt you've have time for everything, so we'll look forward to you coming back soon! Kind Regards Sue
Kingpost was the most wonderful house to stay in as a party compiled of three families with young children. Beautiful village, excellent communication with the host and the house is gorgeous - the photos don;t do it justice! Couldn't recommend enough and we would definitely like to go back!!
Kingpost is a perfect place for families of all ages, from the spacious rooms to the huge choice of things to do inside the house and out in the garden, especially the pool.
Although the village is quite small in size there's lots to see, from the village store for all your needs, the park, church & Motor Museum( right next door) and the lovely welcome you'll get from the local pub restaurants on you doorstep.
So much to do in the area you'll want to come back again, and you are welcome anytime.
Very relaxing bank holiday weekend
A fantastic property which caters well for large groups. We had a family get together and everyone was impressed, we all loved exploring the property which is spacious and nicely decorated. The kids loved the outside in particular the football nett and swimming pool which can be heated and surprisingly is pretty warm!
The Bull Pub across the road does a great Sunday lunch and we were made to feel very welcome.
Sue was incredibly helpful and the welcome pack was a really nice touch.
We all would love to go back soon.
I'm very pleased you found the house accommodating for you all, which is a challenge for everyone to be able to enjoy the house.
As it's a family house we understand the need to keep the children occupied and happy with lots of different things to play with inside and out in the garden.
I look forward to welcoming you back anytime.
Just 2 miles away lies the "Cinque Port Town" of Tenterden, known as "The Jewel of the Weald," it's High Street ranks among the most attractive in the country with it's white weatherboard fronted buildings. A must see, with coffee shops, bars, restaurants and shops.
The famous Sissinghurst Castle & Garden are a few miles away, created by the great Vita Sackville-West in the 1930's. Stunning gardens to wonder round, especially spectacular during spring when the woods are carpeted in Bluebells, and the apple orchards are budding into blossom.
Take a step back in time and board the steam train from Kent & East Sussex Railway at Tenterden station to the 14th century medieval Castle and mote. Enjoy a traditional English tea & cakes before returning to a leisurely train ride home.
