Lapradelle and its surroundings are renowned for mountain walking, cycling and canyoning in the summer months. The Mediterranean is forty miles away with its azure seas and sandy beaches. In the winter the ski slopes are only thirty minutes away and a little further the high slopes of Andorra are within easy reach. The World Heritage city of Carcassonne is to the North and Perpignan to the East. The valley from Lapradelle to the Mediterranean is guarded by many Cathar Castles and is renowned for its wineries. A light open top railway takes you along the valley stopping at each small town where the wines can be sampled before moving on to the next town. The medieval castle of Puilaurens that sits on its own mountain peak overlooking the village of Lapradelle can be walked to directly from the Petit Chateau and makes for awe inspiring views from the battlements to the high Pyrenees to the South and the Mediterranean to the East. A excellent restaurant is 100m from the gates of the Petit Chateau and a small bar on the other side of the small river running through the village provide nourishment and thirst quenching beverages. The river itself can be traversed with ease and is rarely more than knee deep in the summer, its waters are teeming with small fish and other wildlife. The banks make a wonderful place for an afternoon picnic

The Petit Chateau is attended to by our off-site house keepers. Sara and Joe can help you plan and arrange your activities and even prepare meals however, prior notice is required and a small fee will be charged.

About the host

My wife and I leave in the heart of the Cotswold in the UK. I work as an oral implantologist while my wife runs our business and takes care of our three children; Charlotte, Ben and Josh. We have five dogs, one cat, three chickens, two budgies, and a gecko!

Why they chose this property

My wife and I found this unique house four years ago and instantly fell in love with it. Over the past four years we have fully refurbished the property keeping wherever possible original features. We have decorated it sympathetically with its era and put a few of our twists upon it. The area is magical set within the foothills of the Pyrenees and overlooked by ancient castles. The climate is mediterranean in summer yet the ski slopes are within a short drive in the winter.

What makes this property unique

The architecture is Parisian which is most unusual for the region. A large heated pool with full width steps allow swimmers to sit in various depths of water or swim in the 1.5m water. The outside terrace to the rear catches the morning sun and makes a wonderful setting for a lazy breakfast while the travertine stone around the pool makes for comfortable relaxing.
