Modern but cosy rural retreat in the heart of the Mendips
Simon and Annette Tremlett
About Simon and Annette Tremlett
Annette, my wife and I, live on site and are therefore on hand to offer any advice that you may require and provide assurance in all aspects from cleanliness of the cottage as we personally prepare it to our standards before every guest arrives, to ensuring that any questions about the facilities and local area can be answered instantly. Both of us were born and bred in the area, although having lived for a short period of time nearer London, realised the error of our ways and came back for good. I have recently retired and Annette now works part time so we should be available at short notice if required. We both enjoy walking and are happy to share our knowledge and experience of keeping livestock, ours being treated more as pets than anything else. Renting out our cottage since 2011 has proven to be a great success and those that have stayed,we hope, are treated as our guests. Our cottage is our only rental and treated very much as a hobby, so you can be assured of our willingness to make your stay memorable.

What makes this Cottage unique
The views from this property extend over to the Mendip Hills and Cheddar Gorge. It's location allows us to indulge in our passion for walking, small holding in a limited way, and observing nature. We have a small barn for lambing our few ewes adjacent to the cottage, and often have sheep roaming the orchard next door to it. Outdoor pigs are also normally kept during the summer, and i am sure would be keen to meet you, particularly if you bring them food. If you enjoy walking then guided walks could be offered, something only recently possible due to my retirement. the historic city of Wells for example could be incorporated into a Mendips walk, or perhaps a stroll through woods, onto the top of the Mendips, then dropping back down to a local pub for refreshments. If, on the other hand you simply want to feed a sheep from your hand, then you are welcome to stroll with us to wherever they are grazing at the time. This area also lends itself to cycling, and in fact pretty much anything which requires the great outdoors. We consider ourselves very lucky to live where we do, and appreciate that we live where others come on holiday.

Lovely cottage, would stay again
We absolutely agree with prior reviews. Simon and Annette are great hosts and very welcoming. The cottage was lovely, spotlessly clean and well equipped.
We've felt completely at ease and the area has much to offer for walking, visiting the towns in the neighbourhood and probably a lot that we didn't have time for. So every reason to come back, which we hope to do.
Thank you for taking the time to write a review, and thank you both for coming to stay with us. It was great to meet you both, and we are only sorry that you could not stay longer.
We would love to meet up with you both again perhaps next year, and maybe have more of an opportunity to show you around the countryside that we love. Until then wish you both all the best.

A Fantastic Week
Just back from a most enjoyable week spent at Simon and Annette's property in Clewer near Cheddar Gorge. The property itself was just right for my wife and I plus our two young boys. Alot of work has gone into the property. It has been finished to a high standard maintaining a warm and homely feeling. We had a fabulous view across the valley to Cheddar Gorge which is only two miles away from the property. On our arrival we were pleasantly surprised to find the fridge stocked with a few bottles of San Miguel, a bottle of wine and some fresh Duck eggs. A nice touch.
During the week we visited Cheddar Gorge, the caves at Wookey Hole, Burnham-on-Sea, the Animal Farm Theme Park at Berrow, Brean Beach, the Fleet Air Arm Museum at Yeovilton, and We The Curious in Bristol. All these places were within an hours drive of the property.
Simon was kind enough to allow us to feed the pigs and sheep on his farm which our boys took great pleasure in. There were also a few ducks roaming around which also fascinated the boys.
All in all it was a fantastic week which was enhanced by some gorgeous weather. I would thoroughly recommend this property to anyone considering visiting Cheddar and its surrounding area.
Once again thankyou Simon and Annette.
You were great hosts.
First of we would like to thank you for leaving our cottage spotless and hope that your trip home was not as bad as you feared.
It was a great pleasure to have you all stay, next time a piano will be waiting for Jack!...
We are also pleased that you found our location so central to a range of attractions, although Vinnie may not want to bother with the caves again.
Thanks for trusting us with your holiday.

Amazing break away!
We’ve just come back from the most wonderful break away!
Initially a bit sceptical that nowhere could be as good as the reviews suggested, we were immediately proved wrong.
Despite good instructions we got lost (blame the sat nav), Simon came out to meet us and guided us back to the most beautiful cottage! We were greeted by Simon and Annette who provided some very welcome gifts (wine, beer and duck eggs).
The cottage is in a beautiful location; whilst there we visited Longleat, Cardiff, Wookey Hole and Bath. There were some wonderful walks, lovely afternoon teas and pub meals (George Inn and The Bath Arms - recommended).
The cottage is cosy, clean and has everything you need with a lovely little garden and bbq.
The absolute highlight however was feeding the pigs, sheep and ducks. Our children actually cried as we left having had such a wonderful time!!
The only question now is.. when can we get some time off to go back??
Thank you very much for going to the trouble of sending in a review, especially one as complimentary as this. We are both so pleased that you enjoyed your stay with us, and would particularly like to thank Joshua and Jack for their help throughout the week and for fixing our limpy lamb.
Finally we would like to thank you for leaving our cottage in such a beautiful condition and look forward to seeing you all again some time maybe.

Beautiful peaceful cottage
The cottage was really spacious, well equipped and spotlessly clean. The owners were so welcoming and helpful, giving us lots of ideas for things to do. It was really easy to find and only a short distance from loads of different places to visit. The children loved the garden and the animals. The cottage had everything we needed for a fantastic holiday.
Good to hear from you and thank you so much for your very kind review. We are so pleased that you all enjoyed your stay with us and that you too felt that the cottage had everything that you needed. I must also take this opportunity to than k you all for picking us and also for leaving the cottage in such a beautiful condition, much appreciated.
We hope that your drive home was not too onerous and perhaps we will see you all again in the future.
The best of luck to you all,
Simon & Annette.
Very happy with our stay
Simon and Annette made our stay very comfortable and were on hand to give advise where needed. They were very accommodating to our particular needs with having an elderly parent with us. The accommodation was perfect: clean, cosy, accessible and was well equipped. The home made cider was very tasty! It was also great to have a dedicated garden to sit in as the weather was amazing :)Thank you so much. Moira and Mark
Hi Moira & Mark,
Thank you so much for your kind review, we are so pleased that you all enjoyed your stay with us and that your trip back with your mum was not too arduous.
We were so pleased that our cottage seemed to fit your particular needs, especially being all on one level and it having a walk in wet room, both aspects helping you to give your mum an enjoyable say.
We hope perhaps to meet you all again some time, and thank you once again for picking us for your holiday.

Simon and Annette could not have been more welcoming or better hosts. The cottage was spotlessly clean when we arrived and beautifully fitted out with everything we could need. The addition of the wine, beer, duck eggs and milk was a real treat - in fact the eggs were so delicious we bought some more! Thank you Simon for letting us try the cider - I think I liked it more than Hugh did! Annette, Penny just loved bottle feeding the lambs and we all enjoyed the company of the ducks when we sat outside. Again thank you Simon for taking us to feed and meet the pigs and also to meet your other sheep. We had the most fantastic week and could not have asked for nicer hosts or somewhere nicer to stay. Hope to be back soon!
Annette and I are so pleased that you enjoyed your stay with us, and are bowled over by your extremely kind comments, thank you so much.
We obviously feel a responsibility to ensure that you enjoy your stay with us and it is comments such as yours that make it all worth while.
Thank you once again for trusting us with your holiday, and we certainly hope to be still here for you should you find the time to re-visit in the future.
