About this property

Murrays Traditional Irish Stone Cottage, near lake

Experience an authentic historical cottage based in rural Ireland. Sit back, relax and enjoy the breath-taking, green scenery that Ireland is so famous for. This stunning original cottage was built in 1910 and was originally inhabited by native Irish speakers. The beautiful two-story cottage is steeped in history and was built by a strong community spirit.
Kate, one of the five Murray siblings, worked in the kitchen at the Blake family residence in the area. When the Blakes heard that the Murray family had been evicted from their home in Tonamance they were heartbroken. Knowing Kate to be a hard working decent person they decided to help out a family in need. The Blake family donated the site for the cottage so that Kate and her family would not be turned out on the streets. The entire community banded together to donate the funds required to complete the works and volunteered their labour.
One of the main builders was John Goaley who is the grandfather of the present owner. It was a condition from the Blake family that the house would revert back to the Blakes Estate after the last of the Murrays had died. The cottage changed hands many times over the years and fell into a ruinous state. The present owner and her husband have lovingly restored this picturesque cottage to a very high standard. Thanks to their care and attention to detail a delightful authentic stone cottage, nestled among the rolling green hills of the West of Ireland awaits your arrival.
With three bedrooms and a sofa bed this delightful cottage can cater for all wishing to experience a break from daily life. The master bedroom has a king size bed. There is also a double bedroom and a twin room. Up to six guests at a time can relax and unwind in this idyllic country paradise. All the bedrooms overlook the garden surrounding the cottage and the hills beyond. Lose yourself for an hour at time delighting in every shade of green imaginable spreading out in all directions.
Enjoy the view of the garden and the patio while cooking or making a cup of tea in this classic cottage kitchen. Take a home cooked meal and a glass of wine out onto the patio and enjoy a sunset in the best company.
As a quiet retreat or a base to tour the west of Ireland this property is the perfect spot for both. Experience all that the West has to offer in this stunning location. This is the perfect base for sightseeing or exploring Connemara and Galway City. Or sit and watch the world go by in this stunning scene of uninterrupted views of the countryside and distant hills.
W. B Yeats, James Joyce and Oscar Wild were all inspired by rural Irish beauty. Inspiration, relaxation and adventure await your arrival in the heart of the West of Ireland.

lovely little cottage - great area.
cottage is super cute - very clean. caretaker is local if any problems arise. lots to do in the area. i would caution that the lock box is kinda hard to use - need tiny fingers to get it open. once inside the heated floors were wonderful! everything you need for a great stay!

Above Expectations
The cottage exceeded expectations. The home was perfectly clean, and well stocked with anything that you would need. Overall, this is possibly the best VRBO that we have ever stayed in during our travels. If peace and quiet is what you're looking for, this cottage is a great fit.

Brilliant!
We just want to say thank you! Our holidays at Annaghdown were brilliant, the house was lovely, the place was very quiet and only about 20 minutes away from Galway city. We hope to come back soon. It was our first holiday we really want to book again, even our 6 and 4 year old children. The check in and the contact to the agency was very friendly and helpful and we were happy about the bread and butter and some other things for a first snack. Thank you sooo much!
