About Kris Meilahn
When in the greater Seattle Washington area, Kris works as speech-language pathologist helping parents and children with communication challenges. She loves so many aspects of this work especially the laughter and fun that she helps to create as children learn to communicate more effectively. She is also very fond of nature and the outdoors which is inspired by her Wisconsin farm girl roots. Bruce is an electrical engineer who also enjoys his work immensely. He is also an avid bridge player, a game that he grew up around, with his parents both attaining a life master level. We started coming to San Miguel for the winters several years ago, and quickly fell in love with the city, its people and culture, the great restaurants, and all that Mexico has to offer. While still working in the states, we try and get here as much as possible.
Kris Meilahn purchased this House in 2016
Why Kris Meilahn chose Colonia Guadalupe
After 6 years of visiting San Miguel, we decided to purchase because we feel that this will be a great home and location to live in now as well as when we are old. Our house is a short 12 minute flat walk over cobblestone streets to the Jardin and Starbucks in the historic center of town. Restaurant as well as a conventional grocery store are within 2 blocks of our home. Within 5 minutes, we can walk to other food stores, restaurants, coffee shops, the Artisan Mercado, and more. The terrace provides a panoramic view of San Miguel, while the house has all the quiet refuges you could want.
What makes this House unique
Colonia Guadalupe provides a great slice of Mexico. There are local families, businesses, ex-pats, churches, and Mexican culture everywhere. Wall murals are scatted throughout Guadalupe, something no other Colonia can boast of. A new house in this area is rare, but truly the biggest benefit is our location. It truly is in the “heart” of the historic district and is absolutely centrally located. You will not be disappointed to call our place “home” during your stay in San Miguel. Gil's market is a well stocked market with fantastic fruits and vegetables as well as a great assortment of most food basics is only a very short walk away. Plus there is a butcher shop and a small 7/11 types store very close as well....

such a nice place to stay, very enjoyable. good location easy mostly flat walk to Centro. Good pizza and small but well stocked grocery just a half block away. I highly recommend this lovely home.
Hi Susan, It was a pleasure to have you stay at our home. We too think the location is pretty great. Your husband and you were great guests and we welcome you back at any point.... take care, Kris
Best of the best
We were at the house last year at about the same. We had such a wonderful time and loved the house we had to go back again. The house shows just like the photos, beautifully decorated, excellent condition and close to the plaza. It is also well lit for those who like to read. Love the courtyard garden for lunch times and the rooftop
For the evenings. There are two other garden areas. The house feels new and very well cared for.
The house in located in an area of a lot of murals on the outside
Walls, grocery stores, bakery, meat market, and wine store. The La Fabrica la aurora is very close and a must to see.
Hope to go back here again.
I hope your trip back home was on interrupted.
Thank you for the very kind review. We love that you returned and we love sharing your home with you again. You have taken good care of it and I love that you brought to our attention some very little problems that needed fixing. It is one of the ways we are able to keep the house in such good shape.
Return anytime you feel like it. We would love to share with you again
What a wonderful house
We stayed here for a week. What a perfect location and a wonderful, spacious and well equipped home. We were able to walk into the Centro very easily. The house has very fast and reliable wifi too. And Kris is an incredibly responsive host. We will definitely be back.
Hi Joyce, I loved hearing positive things about our interactions and our home.. Thank you very much. . I too have to say that you are very responsive as a guest and I love that you were looking out for us and our home. We welcome you back any time..best wishes..Kris (and Bruce)
Lovely private home in San Miguel de Allende.
Phil and I thoroughly enjoyed this Spanish style home in the Guadalupe neighborhood of SMA. The house is immaculate and extremely well stocked with linens, paper goods, etc. The house is also beautifully decorated with authentic Mexican tile and other features.
Phil and I are in our 80's and were able to walk to the Garden in the central part of SMA in about 20 minutes.
The bathrooms are especially spacious and with two good stall showers and plenty of hot water. The housekeeper came twice during our one week stay which was an unexpected nice surprise, making the bed, washing dishes, moping, etc. Communication with Kris, the owner, was extremely easy via the VBRO message system. The house is exactly as shown in the photos and the owners have really thought it out, providing everything guests could possible need including a good quality collection of maps and guidebooks. There is a market about a block away.
Also, there are always loads of taxis about which will take you from the hose to almost anyplace in SMA for about $2.50. If you want more space than a hotel room, this is a great base for exploring San Miguel de Allende.
