A slice of paradise
If you want peace and serenity, stay here. The home sits above Lake Bolsena with an absolutely fabulous view. Watching the sunrise over the lake is a sublime experience. We were fortunate to also see a spectacular full moon rise slowly over the ochre evening sky and mists. Joseph met us at the local COOP (where you should stop and pick up some basics - milk, bread, coffee, water, etc.) and accompanied us to the home. The setting is magnificent, surrounded by small vineyards, fruit trees, lavender and rosemary. The quietness of the place is simply amazing. The vastness of the night sky, full of stars, makes you slow down and appreciate the fragrance of the evening as you watch the lights come on across the lake. The home itself has everything you need for a comfortable stay. There is plenty of room to move about and the appliances are modern as are the bathrooms - a luxury in Italy which sometimes lacks the best plumbing. We had plenty of hot water with good water pressure for showers. I stayed in the apartment with a kitchenette which had a terrific patio overlooking the lake. This allowed me to prepare simple breakfasts for my siblings and father who stayed in separate rooms on the first level. The rooms had tv's for those who wish to use them (we didn't) and they had plenty of privacy too. There is a dog on the property which Joseph keeps separate from the guests. This small gesture was an additional sign of Joseph's willingness to go out of his way to make sure his guests enjoy their stay. He even brought us fresh figs and grapes that he has grown on his property!
The property if off the beaten path, as they say. If you are looking for the hustle and bustle of an urban setting, this is clearly not it. But if you have been travelling around Italy and need a place to really relax and unwind, you cannot beat this beautiful home. The drive from Florence/Siena through Tuscany is simply stunning and arriving here is a fitting end to a long day's journey. The description is accurate and the pictures do not begin to show the true beauty of this lovely home. There are some good restaurants about 8 km away in Bolsena and we had a delightful meal at Osteria del Lago a few km from the house. If you stay here, it will be an experience you will not soon forget. I will definitely come back with my husband next time and just spend the week touring around the beautiful countryside. I highly recommend this beautiful home. Thanks Joseph!
