Michael and Louisa are passionate about protecting land for nature. By visiting Cornerstone you are helping us maintain the 100+ acre Winkarlin bush island as a sanctuary. With its connection via the coastal reserve to Wilson's Prom the bush around Cornerstone is a very important natural resource.
Louisa purchased this House in 2008
Why Louisa chose Yanakie
Over 100 different species have been identified in and around Cornerstone. For example, there are flocks of Blue-winged parrots breeding there. We are always hoping to spot one with an orange belly! Most days you will see wallabies on the driveway and we regularly see wombats, blue-tongues and echidnas. Corner Inlet is a marine park and the bird life is stunning! Cornerstone's main feature is its privacy. After leaving the beaten track and taking some unmade roads you will travel up a 500m drive way through dense ti-tree. There you will be surprised to find a pretty garden and comfortable house. Click on the Satellite option on the map of Cornerstone and you will see the Winkarlin bush island and how it connects to the Coastal Reserve. Vistors are welcome to explore over 50 acres of bush around the Cornerstone house and we can suggest interesting directions to try. Our goal is to preserve this whole bush area in perpetuity and by staying at Cornerstone you are helping us make this vision financially viable!
What makes this House unique
Even the locals are surprised to find the loveliness and emptiness of Winkarlin Beach. It is only metres from Cornerstone's driveway to the entrance to the beach which is good for swimming at high tide and wonderful for exploring at all times. For fishing enthusiasts you can try you luck off the 'flat rock' on Winkarlin Beach at low tide or walk along the beach to the seawall for high tide fishing.
100% refund if cancelled at least 60 days before arrival date.
Solitude at its finest
We had an incredibly comfortable stay at Cornerstone. If you enjoy the silence of nature and a bit of star gazing at night- it is ideal.
The house has great amenities, is very clean and is situated in a lovely secluded area. We brought all our food/coffee/milk for the week and used the Stove, Coffee Drip Machine (a god send for making coffee for many adults!), washing machine and BBQ. Everything was clean and easy to use. The windows, doors and bathroom facilities are fantastic. The beds and pillows are comfy and the doonas are nice and warm.
Corner Inlet is a short walk away with a scenic view of Wilson's Prom on the horizon and plenty of bird life. Wilson's Prom is a short 15min drive (35mins to Tidal River) but it was the return to Cornerstone (away from the bustle of campers and tourists) that gave us the perfect down time to re-energize, shower and truly enjoy our cuppa on the deck with the birds and nature around the home. Mt.Nicoll Lookout is a short drive which is also worth the view and the Duck Point Loop Walk is another little gem in the area.
I'd recommend Cornerstone to those who enjoy the silence and surrounds of nothing but nature. And many, many thanks to Louisa- for your wonderful communication and considerate nature. Thank you for allowing your lovely home to be available to visitors.
Peaceful private bushland setting
Lovely cottage situated in a very private bush block with lots of birdlife around. Cottage is in excellent condition with no spiders inside. We appreciated the screening on all doors and windows so we were able to open them all to let the breeze through the house. There is a nice 10 minute walk to the inlet where there were lots of birds at low tide.
This was exactly what we were after. Remote, beautiful bush land and bird life and the Prom not far away. The renovation is looking great and will be a real gem once 100% finished. Will definitely stay again if we visit the Prom again.
Cozy and private
Enjoyed our stay very much. Very comfy and well maintained
great comfort in idyllic coastal/bush seclusion
wonderful getaway location with a true bush and coast immersion which is largely your own to explore and absorb
Cornerstone was exactly what we were looking for to escape the city. Private, quiet but only a short drive to Wilson's Prom. Winkarlin beach was a great shallow spot for the kids to splash in and explore some of the local marine life. The house itself is spacious and well kept. Will be visiting again.
The entrance to Wilson's Prom national park is about a 15-20 minutes drive away. The Prom park is packed with amazing beaches, mountains, rivers, wildlife and amazing views.
