About Mary Shipway
Hi travellers, I grew up in South Australia, and have lived in Victoria on the beautiful Mornington Peninsula while raising a family. As time moved on I came to this beautiful area know as the Snowy Mountains in Southern New South Wales. I loved the mountains and the wide open spaces and then decided to stay and to build on the property and be part of this most diverse region.
Mary Shipway purchased this Cottage in 2006
Why Mary Shipway chose Dalgety
This property was a vacant block with the most outstanding views toward Mount Kosciuszko and the Snowy River, breathtaking, with nothing on the property it provided me with a blank slate to build what I wanted. It has been a very interesting experience and I have certainly learnt a a great deal, nothing like hands on.
What makes this Cottage unique
The property is in a very quite area and therefore anyone staying is guaranteed peace and seclusion. the night sky because of the isolation is a mass of stars as far as the eye can see. The home is built in the county cottage style while offering modern features. Best of both worlds.

5 stars all the way
Stayed for 4 nights, cabin was excellent, clean warm and although our stay was for only 2 people, the cabim is a great size for 2 couples. Mary was extremely nice and kept the fire going while we were out exploring making for a nice warm return when we got.back. The kitchen is fully stocked with everything you would ever need for cooking. We had an absolutely amazing time during our stay.
Thank you for your great comments about Snowy View Cottage, its always nice to know that the property is what guests expect and it was a pleasure to have you both stay. Kind Regards Mary
Relaxing and wonderful view of the Snowy.
We travelled down from the South Coast , through Narooma to Bemboka and we were greeted by Mary our host who made us feel most welcomed when we arrived in Dalgety.
We had a great meal at the Buckley’s Pub and came home to a lovey warm fire which Mary had started for us.
The next day we woke to an amazing frost and heading up to Jindabyne for the day. Returned to another warm cottage thanks to Mary.
Had a great stay and would highly recommend !
Gavin and Larrissa were lovely guest to have stay at Snowy View Cottage, I think while they were here Dalgety turned on all of its weather conditions, beautiful frosty mornings followed up by sunny days and a glorious sunset one evening and wind on the
last day. Its great when my guests enjoy the property and spend time just appreciating this very different part of NSW. I was very impressed when I went into the Cottage after they left it was as if no one had been there, so clean and tidy !! Thank you and you are both welcomed back at any time. Mary
Stunning location and very comfortable accommodation
Perfect location for our snowy mountains holiday. Mary is the loveliest of hosts ensuring everything is just right and sharing her local tips on places to go and things to do. Kids and I had a great time and are planning a return visit!
Hi Julia Thank you for your very lovely review, it was great to have you and the children to stay, you are all welcome back anytime. Many thanks for staying at Snowy View Cottage. Mary
Quiet, country cottage perfect for relaxing.
Mary our host was absolutely lovely, making us welcome from the start.
The cottage is cost and very comfortable with everything we needed.
Beautiful Country Escape!
Mary made us feel very welcome in her wonderful cottage. It's decorated beautifully and with comfort and relaxation in mind. The gardens are amazing and made me come home and tidy mine! We awoke to low cloud hanging in the valley each morning (perfect after the horrible long Summer we have all endured), the sounds of birdsong and the fresh smell of country air. There are many historically significant sites to visit in Dalgety, and the drive to Jindabyne is so scenic and photogenic (we spotted a white emu in a field with his more regular coloured friend) . If you visit out of snow season, check out Charlotte Pass and Thredbo too, they are close enough to take advantage of their beauty year round. Knowing you have your comfortable, fully equipped home awaiting complete with wood fire, is so relaxing and re-energising. We will be back again!!
We stayed at the cottage for two nights after completing a five day kayaking trip on the Snowy River through the Byadbo wilderness. It was a stunning place to complete our holiday with views of the Snowy Mountains and the Snowy River. Mary's hospitality was much appreciated; the fire was cosy and the cottage was both elegant and comfortable.
Hi Chris and Ange
Thank you for your very kind words, it was a pleasure to have you stay at Snowy View Cottage and you would be more than welcome back at any time. After speaking with you about your trip I have been inspired to look at doing the kayaking holiday as well. I would have hardly know you had been in the Cottage it was left as found. Many Thanks Mary.
