A spectacular base for visiting Lamington National Park.
About Tony Groom
Retired tour operator. I have lived at Binna Burra, Lamington National Park, most of my life but spent 40 years taking groups of Australians to see the National Parks of the world - 68 countries, hundreds of National Parks, thousands of kilometres of walking.
Tony Groom purchased this House in 1975
Why Tony Groom chose Binna Burra
I always love coming home to Binna Burra.
What makes this House unique
I love the way this house uses some Frank Lloyd Wright principles - growing out of the ground, a modest entry opening onto a grand space, natural building materials.

Honeymooning at Alcheringa
Alcheringa house is absolutely beautiful. Big accommodating house with amazing views, great location. Cannot wait to go back and sit in front of the open fire or out on the deck. House had everything we needed (and more) nice and tidy, if being picky, windows and cobwebs could of had a cleanup. Wanting to go back already!
Glad you enjoyed your stay Amy and thanks for your wonderful comments in the visitors' book. Looking forward to seeing you again on your first anniversary.
Fantastic house with amazing views - older style home with bucket loads of character. Loved our time here and definitely intend to return.
Alcharinga is an experience, not just somewhere to stay. We arrived stressed and left revived and relaxed. The option to eat close by at the lodge wasn’t even considered. We didn’t want to, or need to, leave. The breathtaking views were captured throughout the house with extensive glass panels to bring the outside in. We showered under a waterfall shower head looking into trees. We sat in the huge indoor bath tub with Champaign overlooking the day. The fire places created perfect ambiance to our bottles of wine and endless cheese platters.
We enjoyed the nearby walks available and encountered wildlife galore.
What an incredible few days, we are already planning our return.
So glad you and your group enjoyed your stay at Alcheringa. It sounds like you made the most of all my favourite aspects of the house - the views from every room, especially from the upstairs bath, the fireplaces, the hikes in Lamington.
I hope you and your friends can make a return visit -maybe with parnters?
We had an amzing stay with our family at Alcheringa, it is so well positioned on the mountain to offer stunning views with close proximity to various amazing bush walks/views - the wild / birdlife was amazing! The home is spacious with great open design and has a unique 'bush' feel, had all amenities needed to make our stay worthwhile, and Tony was very helpful and welcoming! We would recommend this place to anyone seeking great bush walks and wanting great serenity and peace in the mountains.
This property is HEAVEN ON EARTH
Absolutely loved this property. I have stayed at 100's of various Hotels, Apartments and Holiday homes and this has to be in my top 5 list. With amazing views, spacious living and great facilities, it is the perfect place to come and relax. I must also mention that Tony is such an amazing host who has just about anything and everything you need in the house, plus he is just a phone call away if needed. I'm definitely coming back very soon. THANK YOU
Spectacular location and amazing views.
A very spacious and rustic house that had everything we needed. The outside spa was fantastic after a day of hiking. Options of the front balcony or the outside bbq area to relax and enjoy being in the rainforest. Close access to many great walks in Lamington National Park.
The house is inside Lamington National Park, one of Queensland's best known. You can access the four main walking track entrances from the house. The Visitor centre is 1km from the house and the main park entrance is 500 metres.
PLEASE NOTE. The map system that HomeAway uses can be confusing and misleading. . For example, Alcheringa is 500 metres from the main park entrance but HomeAway says it is 4.7km to the "park centre". Other properties are shown to be 12 or 13km from the "park centre" but they are actually 65 to 75km by road from the park entrance due to the topography of ridges and valleys. If you want to visit Lamington National Park, choose a property close to either the Binna Burra or O'Reillys entrances.
