About Betty Kenny
I live in Brisbane with my husband and 3 kidults. I work part-time as a Rehabilitation Consultant. We love visiting Straddie and enjoying the peace and natural environment.
Betty Kenny purchased this House in 1997
Why Betty Kenny chose Redland City
In 1988 my father Pat Kenny showed me the block of land that Pat's Retreat was later built on. He encouraged me to purchase it as it was being sold in a government land sale. I wasn't wise enough to take up his suggestion so he purchased the land himself and took out a government loan. He didn't let anybody know about this. Sadly he died suddenly a few months after he purchased the land at the age of 64 years. He hadn't told my mother Una that he had purchased the land as she would have complained about having to pay the land tax. So when she found out he had a loan on the land , she asked me if I wanted to purchase the land. I agreed gratefully and my sister, her husband, my husband and I became the proud owners of the land. We had the house built in 1997 and named it in honour of my father Pat without whose wisdom we wouldn't have a lovely house on Stradbroke Island.
What makes this House unique
The house has a large outdoor living area and a large yard with lots of trees. There are lots of birds including curlews. We sometimes see koalas in the trees at the back of the house. Kangeroos sometimes come to the front yard or the neighbours yard. The natural environment of Straddie is very relaxing and energising.
