About Helen McKeering
We love restoring cottages, love dogs and cats, caravan trips, Mudjimba Beach, and films.
Helen McKeering purchased this House in 2010
Why Helen McKeering chose Brighton
We fell in love with the garden (as we had lived on an island for some time) and the garden here reminded us of the casual and abundant vegetation on the island.

Our stay in Brighton
Brighton is nice but it really depends on what you want. We weren't keen on the beaches but really enjoyed nearby Bribie island. The property is spacious with lovey out side areas, shaded with a tropical garden. The owners were very helpful to us. There is good off road parking and nearby Sandgate is a small town with shops and worth a visit. We particularly liked the Post office hotel for an evening meal.
Excellent pet friendly house with luscious gardens and deck. Spacious living areas and comfy beds.
We were looked after by Helen and Glenn from the moment we arrived. Paradise Cottage was indeed that, with beautiful gardens, and two lovely private outdoor decks. So relaxing! The kitchen features new appliances and swish clean lines. Plenty of space for family to get together on lounges inside and out. Outside eating was very nice too, although a lovely inside setting seats six. The bed in main bedroom was very cosy and the room has lovely light in the mornings. Second bedroom is smaller but quite nice too. The lounges are fine to sleep on for that extra guest. Our little dog, Charlie, enjoyed exploring the fenced yard, something we don't have at home, so it was a nice experience to let her wander around at her leisure with no worries. We had 3 cars with us and they were fine to line up in the driveway, although it seemed a little tight at first. Sometimes we parked one car on the road outside. Showers were hot and washing machine easy to use. The space is really quite private and a delight in the mornings with coffee on the sunny deck. Will come again!
So lovely to have you and your family - and of course, Charlie. I hope you come again!
Lovely peaceful place
Great pet friendly place which is spacious and comfortable.
Susan it was a pleasure to have you stay - although communication was a difficult - possibly because you came in from overseas and your parents made the bookings, However, all lovely.
The place was worn and old. BBQ was rusted and not usable. Linen was old and marked. TV was antique.
Pictures in add did not give a true description of the place. Driveway was really narrow and the undercover parking was full of owners boat and old furniture. Owners dogs howled and set off a medley of neighbors dogs.
Carole I realise now you are new to booking with HomeAway and short term holiday accommodation. I had previously explained to you when booking that holiday accom was quite different to motel accommodation. I am sorry you had a mix up with paying the balance. I have since checked the correspondence and see you might have felt our response was abrupt. My deepest apologies for any hurt.
We offer a special service for pet owners like yourself and allow pets inside. We keep old linen for the purposes of covering sofas etc.
I now realise you did not open the access details sent through HomeAway - as you had to phone me about the address. The access instructions ask you to park in the front undercover carport where possible as that the driveway to the back carport is narrow and there is no need to use it... unless confident to do so.
The cottage description on HomeAway clearly states it is a renovated builder's shed albiet with charm and character and I am sorry you perceived it as old and worn. Possibly your family from the area booked for you and you did not read the description?
Photos are exact except for newer furniture on one deck and as described. The TV is a 55" Panasonic and while not a Smart TV, is lovely to watch.
We were freely available to you as we were staying next door during your fortnight stay, and that was the time to raise issues - even text me if you don't wish to talk face to face.
For the future in any other guest house, just be aware that your dog barked whenever you were out. It was not a bother to us however as it is a little dog. Yes, there are a number of dogs in the street and they do get excited at the postie and children returning from school. We rarely leave our dogs at home and are rarely next door. Very few places allow dogs ( and especially inside the house) so it is a pity reviews such as this are posted, rather than resolving the issues beforehand. My husband went in with the electrician to fit the new fan for you - he could have got the BBQ going for you if you had asked him then.
I did give you an excellent rating but I do hope you improve communication with future hosts.
We had a lovely time in a very welcoming property, the property owners were great to deal with.
Wonderful Pet friendly Cottage
We stayed in Paradise Cottage for 4 weeks with our 3 year old kelpie and 17 year old cat. It was the perfect place for us all to find our feet after relocating to Brisbane from Melbourne.
The Cottage has everything you could need and the outside area is perfect for fur babies. It is well fenced and we didn't have to worry about letting the dog out. Even our cat had a good wander around.
Helen and Glen are wonderful hosts that give you privacy and space to enjoy your holiday but are available via messaging if anything is needed. They are very accommodating and go above and beyond to make your stay as wonderful as possible.
We highly recommend the cottage to anyone looking for a pet friendly place to stay.
Samantha you are most welcome and good to see your elderly cat and your kelpie had a nice relaxed stay while you were searching for your forever home. We do have a number of relocating families stay in Paradise and it is a nice cottage to wind down after a move from the UK or interstate.
