About Ann Gee
Alan, my husband and I have lived and worked in beautiful Sawtell for many years now and we just love it. I have a busy architectural practice and we are lucky enough to have built a new experimental building for our studio and residence. I work with our son Oliver who is also an architect. Our dog Gizmo is the the public relations manager. Alan and I love to travel. We also sing in madrigal choir. The choir practices weekly at our home. We love all music genres and I have been involved with Coffs Harbour Regional Conservatorium for over 15 years.
Ann Gee purchased this House in 1981
Why Ann Gee chose Sawtell
We purchased this property way back in 1981. At that time Sawtell was pretty but unevolved. We could see the potential in the area and wanted to make the sea change from Sydney. There was one little cottage on a huge block. 5mins from the ocean. We lived there for a while, then built a basic home and converted the cottage to the office. The basic home was serially renovated and became what is now Ginger. When the cottage office reached its use by date, we decided to build an experimental building to house the office and a retirement "apartment" for ourselves. That is when with a few small amendments we launched Ginger for holiday rental.
What makes this House unique
The best thing about Ginger is its generosity. All the spaces are large and comfortable. The three suites allow your travelling group to share and retreat as needed. The design is elegant, with comfort and style equally balanced. You can bring your furry friends on holidays which is a treat. Then, Sawtell in itself is a total treat: the beach, the restaurants & cafes, the boutiques, the historic movie theatre. Spoilt for choice. As a holiday maker you can partake of sports, festivals, culture or just hang out and relax. The world is your oyster at Sawtell.

Long Weekend stay with family and friends
The perfect place to stay with our group of three couples. So close to the beach. Alan and Ann are the perfect hosts. We will be back !
Large and wonderful
It is a great place for 3 couples or for a family. Wonderful quiet location with a beautiful outlook to a tropical garden
The set up of this property was fabulous. 3 bedrooms all with their own en-suite & sitting area which I haven't found anywhere else. There is also great sized living areas, big kitchen and walk in pantry, and a great out door area with covered deck. Plenty of off street parking for our 3 cars, very easy to locate & only a few minutes walk into the main street with plenty of cafes and drinking spots.
The reason I have only rated as a 3 is because we found it wasn't cleaned at all well. Lots of dust on the furniture, live and dead flies in the upstairs bedroom and in a couple other rooms, I found the dust & mustiness triggered my asthma & I had to be selective of the bedroom I used.
The kitchen cloths were not clean, one was especially bad & should have been thrown out a long time ago. We had taken paper towel and used it to dry the cups & glasses we used and wipe up after ourselves. We choose to eat out for every meal, not sure how long ago the oven was cleaned.
Glasses, cups etc were clean, bedding and towels were clean as well.
I am disappointed as I was planning on staying here again in September but have now changed my mind.
Hello Maureen Rose, We are sorry that you had that experience with the dust. We would have been more than happy to do a spot clean for anything missed.
It is sometimes hard to get everything right for such a large house in a quick turnover, but there really wasn't an excuse for your booking. Regards Ann
Comfy like home
We always love staying here. Ann and her husband are very lovely and very accommodating. Their house is perfect for families or multiple families with three separate bedrooms with their own bathrooms and lounge / TV areas. Everything you need for a relaxing stay in Sawtell. We look forward to staying there again soon.
Not so little gem !
We loved your place Ann and Alan! Alan was very helpful and friendly when we arrived. Beautifully presented very spacious house. Each room has its own bathroom and seating area, as well as a large lounge room, kitchen and dining room. Unfortunately we were only staying overnight. If only our next place had been soo good!! We would have loved to stay here longer. Sawtell is a great spot we walked the 5 minute walk to the Main Street and were spoilt for nice places to eat. We followed the locals and walked another 10 minutes out to the headland and watched the surfers. A great but brief stopover. Thanks for your haspitality Ann and Alan.
Thank you Amanda for a great response. We would love to have you stay for longer any time
Liked the location. short walk to shops and beach. Liked the layout. Great for multiple couples.Especially separate bathrooms. Needs TV in common room, and weren't able to connect TVs to WiFi.
Would definitely come back.
Ginger is an elegant and generous home nestled in a peaceful street in the heart of Sawtell.
Sawtell is a beachside community boasting a variety of visitor attractions including the main surf beach which is home to the Sawtell Surf Club. The beach is patrolled daily during most of the summer, and is a popular surf, swimming and fishing beach.
The headlands are popular for watching the migrating whales and taking in the incredible coastline views. At the southern end of Sawtell Beach you will find Sailors Bay, an area sheltered by a small island which can be reached at low tide. Here you will find a boat launching ramp, nearby parking, and tidal rock pools.
Sawtell’s tree lined vibrant village centre boasts an abundance of cafes, boutique clothes & jewellery shops, a variety of restaurants all within close walking distance to the main beach and a 10 minute walk from Ginger. Boambee Reserve is close by and is a popular destination for swimming in the estuary, BBQs and canoeing. Sawtell's (18 hole) Golf, Tennis and Bowls clubs are also within walking distance.
The Sawtell Chili festival in July is a great family day attracting locals and visitors. The street is closed and lined with market stalls, filled with music and fun.
Sawtell’s historic movie theatre was saved by local supporters, renovated to have the best seats in the district. It runs blockbusters as well as art film festivals.
Coffs Harbour is 15mins by car and has all the facilities of a large regional city.
