Farmstay Cottage with Miniature Donkeys in the Goldfields Victoria
Peter and Marianne Pink
About Peter and Marianne Pink
Peter and I have both lived in and around Victoria throughout our lives. Peter has been an avid metal detecting hobbyist for over 30 years and we found we were driving here every Saturday and every Sunday. Eventually we decided to buy our retirement home in the Goldfields, because it just made sense! We kept our new home as a weekender for 12 months and then I pointed out to Pete, that what we were doing was crazy! It would be a much nicer life to live in the country and visit Melbourne if and when we had to. So we put our home in Melbourne on the market. It sold to the first people who looked at it and they wanted a three week settlement!!! No chance to change our minds anyway! Well somehow, before we had sold our home, we had discovered the joy of one miniature donkey in our lives. He needed a companion and so then there were two. The rest is history and we couldn’t be happier.
Peter and Marianne Pink purchased this Cottage in 2014
Why Peter and Marianne Pink chose The Goldfields
After living in Daisy Hill for 12 months, a property across the road from us, with much better grazing land came up for sale. As our number of donkeys had increased, we decided it a good investment on behalf of the donkeys. There were two cottages on the property, that had cabin style interiors. Dark wood grain panels , moulded shower recess etc ... We stood in one of the cottages looking out of the front window, took one look at each other and knew we were thinking the same thing! How absolutely gorgeous a place, to get away from the big smoke and experience country living - with humble donkeys of course! It took 9 months to complete the renovations and then the visitors started coming. Fair to say, I think we were right. The cottages have been well received by so many guests who just love it here and our Visitors book, is full of wonderful comments and promises of return visits. We have had the odd visitor, that felt their experience was not complete without Wi-fi. We currently can’t do much about that. And then there are those who discover, ‘the old fashioned way’ of entertaining themselves and are grateful to have grounded themselves with the peace and tranquility the property has to offer.
What makes this Cottage unique
The silence here is full of noise. The birds with their unique calls, the wind in the treetops, sometimes the donkeys... Just like listening to the ocean, if you take the time to sit and listen, it is breathtaking, tranquil and therapeutic. That’s what we love the most. Children playing outside with plenty of room and fresh air. 16 acres with only two cottages. Getting to know the beautiful nature of the humble donkey. Playing board games, reading books and spending time talking to each other. So many unique things to do in the area and something to please everybody. Unlike a typical touristy holiday, at Donkey Tales, you make your own adventures, ones that will be remembered with a smile, for the rest of your days!

Great place, lovely accomodation
We had a great time at Donkey Tales. Accomodation is clean and cozy with a great gas log fire for winter. The kids loved the donkeys and it is in a great spot to see local towns, wineries etc.
Thank you Tom for writing a review. So glad you enjoyed your stay at our property. Hard not to love the donkeys isn't it? ?? Hopefully we will see you again one day.
