Do yourself a favor and book elsewhere. While the pictures looked good the furnishings of this residence need updating. The pool was to cold to use and the deck chairs were in horrible shape. We also had large bugs crawling on the floor and followed then to a hole in the wall behind the TV in the master bedroom. Plugged it with a hand towel. Bedroom tv’s didn’t work at all. Pot and pans were horrible. Just glad to away healthy.
Owner, manager and agent were all surprised by this inflammatory review since none of us heard anything from this guest during his stay. We have (4) different "touch points" with guests while on island and this guest signed his pledge to alert us by phone or email if there was anything awry at the property during his stay. We even provide cell numbers for texting.
We do offer pool heat as a paid option, however this guest decided not to opt for it. We did find 2 teflon pans that were scratched by guests using metal utensils...have thrown those away (there were many others not scratched).
This home has never received less than a 4 star rating and has the highest percent of repeat guests of our 75 managed villas. The owner just had new furniture installed prior to his stay and keeps the home in immaculate shape. The Cayman Islands Department of Tourism inspectors annually give it an "excellent" grade.
On check-in, we ask them to contact us if there are any issues (besides the contract) and the manager of the house has his phone number and email on cards through out the house.
Upon departure, the manager was told about ants behind the TV (he had the home sprayed immediately), but he didn't see poor quality furniture or other items that this guest mentioned... we have guest there currently who are enjoying the home (we double-checked) and so we have to chalk this review up to some other cause. Owner and manager are extra vigilant as a result... anyone looking to book this home please inquire for a full list of 4 years of reviews
Location and layout of properrty and house is stellar for combined families and children. Rum Pointe was ideal for our family. Our trip to the Island was fabulous. Grand Cayman Villas and Silver Thatch services, professional and friendly staff. Thank you. Issues we experienced with house, inefficient HVAC system in the main house, bedrooms either too cold with second and third bedrooms too hot with noisy ceilinng fans. The small guests house was musty, our son and his families allergies kicked in. Purple bedroom mattress needs to be replaced with firmer mattress.
Your very own resort In paradise
We thoroughly enjoyed the property. Plenty to do to keep our party of 8 satisfied because getting to Seven Mile beach from Rum Point is quite a long trip and driving at night was not easy. If you want peace and quiet this is the place. We had a little trouble getting in touch with the property manager but to his defense there was a wind storm on the island and he was very busy. The pool was very dirty from the storm - we cleaned it ourselves because we were unable to get in touch with Ron and the safe was locked but after it was open it still did not work for us - could have Been operator error. Small issues - great time! We will return to CAY MAN - the island is beautiful!
Wonderful time and amazing property!!!!!!!!
We rented Great Escape for a week and absolutely loved it. We have traveled all over the world and stayed in numerous accommodations. This was by far our favorite. The property was immaculate and accommodated our family of six adults and two children perfectly. Everything about this property was great!!! We spent our days swimming in the pool, fishing off the dock, lounging in the screened in porch, playing games, grilling, and kayaking in the cove. We have stayed on Seven Mile Beach twice before and all agree that staying at Great Escape and near Rum Point was far better. It's a much quieter pace, low key, and very safe with no crowds. We loved walking down the street to Rum Point, grabbing coffee at the Kaibo Expresso Bar, and dancing at the Kaibo Tuesday night Barefoot BBQ. We highly recommend this property and can't wait to go back. One recommendation we would make is to pay the extra and have the pool heated. We are so happy that we had it heated. Thank you again to the owners for sharing this wonderful property and allowing our family to have such an amazing time in Grand Cayman.
Beautiful home in spectacular location
Beautiful location. Well appointed home. Perfect for 6 adults with space to gather and space to linger peacefully and privately.
My family of four, two teenagers and two adults stayed at the property and it was perfect. The home was very clean and the perfect layout for hanging out. We really enjoyed the outdoor area around the pool and the screened in porch...very private so we could play music and hang late if we wanted. We used the paddle board and the two kayaks everyday to cruise up and down the inlet. Really nice being so close to Rum Point...yes, just a walk away to see the ocean, grab a bite to eat or relax with a drink. People very friendly and nice.
Nothing negative but I will mention that we were there the first week of June (start of rain season) and if the wind was not blowing, the mosquitos were a problem. All the outdoor restaurants came to the table with bug spray just in case. We had lots of ocean air so was only a problem one evening. I would definitely stay at Rum Point versus Seven Mile Beach for the privacy and beauty. Great vacation.
The entire island is only 22 miles wide from west to east, so you are never too far from anywhere on Grand Cayman.
The cove-front homes in Cayman Kai offer calm serene water for docking a rental boat, charter boat pick-up, or just safe shallow swimming for little children. Adults wont swim in the cove as the Rum Point Club is too nice by comparison.
You get the best of both worlds at Great Escape: a backyard facing the cove with a private pool and boat dock, proximity to the Rum Point Club, plus an idyllic beach across the street. Public right-of-way beach access is located diagonally across the street.
The big draw to this area is the proximity to the Rum Point Club, a public beach club that offers a fantastic barefoot beach, water sports, a restaurant bar and grill, a gift shop, and pick-up beach volleyball games. Also nearby is the Kaibo Yacht Club featuring a fine dining restaurant, a casual beach bar and grill, and a marina. Overall, Cayman Kai is a fabulous neighborhood dotted with million-dollar oceanfront villas and sweeping views.
Lastly, about 20 minutes east we have 2 large resorts (Morritt's and The Reef) that offer manicured beaches as well as restaurants, a modern grocery store, liquor store, gift shops, a Subway sandwich shop, and a cafe/pastry shop. These two resorts also offer scuba, snorkel trips, jet skis, windsurfing, kiteboarding, ocean front pools and bar service.
