About Vickie Van der Hoeven
When we lived together in London in the late 1990s my now husband Ed & I had a shared dream of running our own accommodation in Australia. We moved here in 2003, bought our property a year later & after years of dedicated building & landscaping and lots of hard work, it has taken us until 2017 to realise that dream but we are now open for business & loving it! What we have created in Barwite is more than we could ever have imagined to be possible & we are looking forward to this next chapter in our lives along with our two beautiful children. We are very proud of what we have achieved & are happy now it is all established. We are very much looking forward to hosting you and sharing our dream property with you.
Vickie Van der Hoeven purchased this Cottage in 2004
Why Vickie Van der Hoeven chose Barwite
We chose to set up our accommodation in Barwite, Mansfield because of it's location to year-round opportunities for guests to enjoy the variety of seasons and all they have to offer - whether it is skiing on the mountain (only 25 min drive to Mt Buller), swimming or fishing in the lakes and rivers, cycling the area or visiting the local attractions such as the maze, the zoo and the awe-inspiring lookouts, there is something for everyone. As well as the wineries, breweries, cafes and restaurants.
What makes this Cottage unique
Everything you see on the property has been built, placed or grown by us. It has taken a long time to establish, but we feel we are at a point now where we can enjoy what we have created and now are able to share the property with others for a special holiday experience.

A warm, welcoming immaculately presented property. The perfect place to unplug and unwind.
We absolutely loved our stay, the house was immaculate with everything that we needed. Vickie and Ed were extremely welcoming and warm and made sure that our every need was accommodated for. The perfect place to unplug and unwind. We could have sat on the deck forever
The kids loved the goats and alpacas and feeding time was a highlight of their day. I would highy recommend this property. We are already planning our next trip.
Thank you Anne, it was a real pleasure to meet you, Lloyd, Kira and Matthew, such a lovely family. And so good to hear that the kids loved spending time with the animals, such a serene and reflective activity for young adults. Looking forward to catching up with you all next time you are in the area, we both really enjoyed chatting with you and I could listen to Lloyd’s words of wisdom forever! Thank you for choosing to stay at A View to a Hill.
Special place with great care taken by the owners to make the stay wonderful, for adults and childre
We stayed here in summer 2019, 3 adults and 3 children. Its a beautiful modern house with stunning views and a lovely garden with access to farm animals. Great for adults and children. The owners have put a lot of care and effort into the house which has an established garden and beyond that farm animals that children can play with. The location is peaceful and distanced from neighboring properties, but the owners were close by and willing to help with any needs. Also an easy driving distance from Mansfield. We really enjoyed our stay and would like to return! Suzi
Hi Suzi, so glad to hear you enjoyed your stay with us. Yes it’s not often you get to hand feed alpacas and cuddle up with miniature Pygmy goats-a real hit with kids young & old!
We would love to have you all back again some time-the kids would love the snow so maybe we will see you in winter!

Perfect in every way
Spacious, comfortable, spotlessly clean, magnificent views and lovely hosts. That about sums up our three day stay at A View to a Hill. Vickie and Ed should be very proud of what they have created. We just wished we lived closer (it’s a long way from the U.K.), otherwise we would be regular visitors.
Oh thank you ever so much Bruce! It was a pleasure to meet you & Pat and we would love to see you both again on your next visit. Take care and best wishes,
Vickie & Ed
Lovingly restored and a wonderful place to stay.
This property is really a home away from home. Lovingly restored by the owners we enjoyed our stay immensely.
A great place to stay close to lovely Mansfield and the Mt Buller ski fields.
We will be back for another stay. Ian and Lois.
Thank you Ian and Lois, it was lovely to meet you both and our pleasure to host you on your break-away. Yes, we aim to provide a home away from home, we're so glad that was your experience.
Looking forward to hosting you again, Vickie & Ed
Best place in Masfield
We had a fantastic stay. The place is very well taken care of, very clean and has the best views in the whole Mansfield area. Close to walking tracks as well as the town centre. Far from main roads and traffic and very quiet. Beautiful and friendly animals. The hosts Vickie and Ed are lovely and friendly people and what they have done so far is truly inspiring. Very much recommended.
Wow-what a fabulous summary of our "slice of heaven!"
It was really lovely to meet you all and our pleasure to host you for your weekend away. Thank you ever so much for taking the time to write about your experience-it is much appreciated. Looking forward to hosting you again in the future.

Beautiful property in an amazing location
We stayed for 3 nights and thoroughly enjoyed every element of our stay. The cottage is beautifully designed and appointed with multiple outdoor sitting and eating spaces - all lovely. Brilliant views and lovely garden surrounds. Our hosts were really helpful, generous and friendly. Definitely intend to return.
Thanks ever so much for your lovely feedback. We are looking forward to hosting you again soon, kind regards, Vickie & Ed
There is lots to see & do at the property. The rural setting is such that it is constantly changing, especially with the resident animals-it is a real pleasure to sit and watch the goats & alpacas roaming around & interacting. The owners can arrange for you to help out at feeding time by hand-feeding the animals some hay-a great experience for kids and parents alike as well as a fantastic photo opportunity!
At the bottom of the property is the Broken River which is a beautiful short walk to see the river and cascades-you will probably see Kangaroos on the way! And maybe lucky enough to spot a platypus!
There is also a tyre swing and rope to climb for the kids in the private establish gardens.
If you would like a scenic drive, half an hour away in Power's Lookout which is on the way to Whitfield and the King Valley wineries. A gorgeous well-maintained lookout over the vineyards and short bush walk to breathe in the clean country air!
There is obviously also Mt Buller which is a lovely half hour drive to the entrance gate. During winter you can experience an abundance of snow and enjoy down-hill skiing, cross country skiing, snow-boarding, tobogganing, ice skating or snow-play! It is a real winter wonderland!
The main town of Mansfield is a lovely 15 minute drive. It has all that you would need including two fully-stocked supermarkets, lots of cafes & restaurants, a post office and three pubs as well as lovely gift and clothing shops. There are also two great parks and a skate park for the kids!
The district of Mansfield has lots to offer, catering for pretty much every hobby from cycling to photography to boating and fishing not to mention skiing and even a digital cinema!
There is a fantastic information centre open everyday from 10-3pm.
Please also feel free to ask us for more information to enhance your stay with us.
Looking forward to hosting you and reading of your experiences of our beautiful area!
