Wonderful stay, close to Perth but very quiet
Relaxing, comfortable farm-stay.
We thoroughly enjoyed our holiday, with our grandchildren, in this comfortable cottage in the beautiful gardens and surrounding area. The grandchildren loved helping Sandy to feed the animals and the safe playing environment at the farm.
Thanks Chris, the estate is awesome! My family enjoyed the stay very much. Cheers.
Relaxing and restful farm stay
We had a wonderful stay. The cottage was inviting, clean and well appointed. The gardens and grounds are well kept and beautiful, the hosts very welcoming.
A great place to unwind and recharge the old batteries
It was a welcome surprise to find upon arrival that Sandy had the whole house nice a coooool - it was a 41 deg C day as we drove south in the afternoon. The actual house was beautifully appointed, including Christmas decorations. Most furniture and fittings are mid to top-end and the kitchen very well appointed. There is a beautiful deck leading out from the kitchen/dining area - we decorated the balustrade in Christmas lights and tinsel - it looked great.
The grounds (2 acres) were near immaculate, beautiful and lush green (this is what one can do with a large, private dam), advanced trees such as Norfolk Pines form an effective screen from the private dwelling and private theater (yes, Sandy manages a, not for profit theater that ploughs funds back into the local community at least three times year). There is a Big Apple in the top paddock, if conditions are right, with permission from Sandy and Tony, we walked up to the BA tower - the view was great, even from the bottom. It won't be long until the tower is inspected and certified by an Engineer for climbing again. Imagine the view then!
The night sky is excellent, if you have a portable telescope or powerful binoculars, you will be impressed. The property is well away from major roads - it is very quiet at night.
For those with children, there is a range of animals that would delight including Alpacas, horse, pony, chickens with chicks, Charlie the white parrot, a couple of pink and grey Galahs. As this is also a working farm, there are a number of sheep and Angus cattle, but they are securely held in their paddocks.
There is also an enormous dam, many paddocks away from the farmstay house with a 500 m circumference - beautiful to view from a distance at sunrise and sunset. There are many photo opportunities on the property - it is difficult to take a bad photo.
We made day trips to Peppermint Grove Beach, Greenbushes Pool, Ballingup (not mushroom season unfortunately), Nannup, Crooked Pool, Wellington Dam, Honeymoon Dam, Boyanup. We bush walked, swam, checked out the various rivers, visited the great bakeries (I recommend the Choppa Loaf from the Donnybrook bakery near Gingergold's retro/curio shop). The 'Donnabook' book shop had a reasonable range of books and the Donnybrook Op Shop has a large range of items - some gems in that lot.
We want to thank Sandy and Tony for being perfect hosts and providing an excellent holiday venue.
Very clean, relaxing and Sandra was very helpful & friendly
