BEWARE: Fraudulently misleading listing with vindictive and intimating host.
We’ve never left a review like this. We’ve stayed at many vacation rentals and have only given five-stars. Sadly, this listing and host were a nightmare.
My family, husband, and my pregnant self paid well over $11,000 to stay in two of the host’s dwellings on this property based on the information and pictures provided in his listings. When we arrived, that information and those pictures turned out to be so misleading that it amounted to fraud.
Atmosphere: The host described these properties as having an "elegant design," with the three-bedroom unit having "professionally designed picturesque landscapes" and "an ideal villa for weddings, engagements and family reunions." My mom described it as a “junkyard.” There was construction debris everywhere --broken railings, piles of warped window, stacks of unused tiles, and exposed wiring. Planters were filled to the brim with chlorine jugs and more debris surrounded the balconies. The awning over the one-bedroom unit was destroyed, despite being pictured as totally intact.
Pool Area: The listings feature pictures of a pool with a beautiful wood shade structure with tables and chairs and a balcony with a railing that extends along the length of the property. It’s described as "a covered shaded area furnished with a barbeque, refrigerator, sink and dining tables." Well, the pictured shade structure did not exist. Instead, there was an elevated blue tarp weighed down with visible chains. The refrigerator was rust-covered and there was no outdoor sink. The balcony area was in shambles, with no railing for much of it and much of it basically closed off from use.
Amenities: In the three-bedroom unit, we could not run the air conditioner without flooding the bathroom because the AC drip line drained onto the floor. We fixed this with pots that we had to empty nearly hourly. The downstairs bathroom was open to a utility room with unfinished drywall. The host demanded that we not flush toilet paper. The one-bedroom unit had barely warm water for the first part of our stay and no hot water for nearly two days. After the host “fixed” the problem, the water warmed to 78 degrees.
When we complained about these conditions to the host and asked for 30% back (after the trip, for our safety), he became very threatening. He threatened us (“make my day,” “the best is yet to come”) and searched for and brought up personal information about my family to intimidate us.
