QUIET RETREAT ON A COUNTRY LANE
The title is accurate and it was nice to be out of the town in a peaceful setting. the property was well equipped and the owners were very helpful and friendly . The fit-out showed nice taste and it was very clean and new.
Peter and Justine were ideal guests. They communicated well at all times, were easy to chat to, respectful of the apartment, and best of all, they left the Casita perfectly clean and neat! We would welcome them back any time, and have no hesitation in recommending them as guests.
Thanks for coming to stay with us!
Port Fairy is an ideal small community, and provides easy access to a fascinating hinterland.
The town itself - a small village - has a population of around 3,500, but the number of quality cafes, restaurants and bars far exceeds what would be expected for a population of this size. As well, there is a variety of ocean-related outdoor activities: beach-combing, swimming, surfing, snorkelling, paddle-boarding, etc. A lighthouse on a small island can be incorporated in a lovely walk.
Port Fairy is an historic town. The geology is interesting and easily accessible via numerous ancient volcanoes, lava caves, lava tubes and a very interesting Volcano Discovery Centre at nearby Penshurst.
The Aboriginal history stretches back thousands of years and can be better understood by joining a tour of Tower Hill, or the Budj Bim areas provided by local indigenous guides.
The more recent history saw Port Fairy as a hub for early settlers arriving by boat, and a local museum and Visitor Information Centre provide excellent stories, histories, displays and walking tours.
The wider hinterland can be reached by car, or private tour provider.
