Why Mark Todd chose Blowing Rock
We visited Blowing Rock in 2015 and fell in love with the place. We have 3 adult children and Alpine View is a perfect place for the family to gather and enjoy being together.
What makes this House unique
The views and location are outstanding. While you are at the house, you feel like you are in the clouds. When its time to enjoy some dining, you are within 15 minutes to Blowing Rock or Boone where the choices are endless. You can also hang out around the fire pit and enjoy some stories about a recent hike of fishing excursion.

Can't wait to return!
My family of four chose "Alpine View" because of its location. We were blown away with the property in several other ways. First, it was immaculately clean. I've rented many places from multiple services and this house was by far the cleanest inside and out I've ever seen. Not even a dead bug or spiderweb on the deck. Second, everything was in perfect working order. The kitchen was "retro" yet like new. It's as if it were built in the 1960's and went unused and perfectly preserved all this time. The bathrooms were all brand new, the deck clean and crisp, and all the outdoor furniture in great condition. Third, the bedding and towels were superb - All very soft, clean, and fresh. Fourth, the location was even better than we'd imagined - Views as amazing as any Scenic Overloop on the Blue Ridge Parkway, a great back yard giving lots of space between you and neighbors, ample parking, and a huge deck for enjoying that view morning, noon and night. Finally, Mark was a suberb host - He communicated just what we needed when we needed it and was a pleasure each time.
We will be back next year for sure!
This house was great. The view from the deck was amazing. The king beds were very comfortable. There is lots of parking. I loved seeing deer under the apple trees in the yard. Very nice property!
Wonderful house, views, and location!
We loved our stay at Alpine View! The views, as stated in the house description and other reviews, were amazing! The house was very clean and comfortable. The kitchen was well-stocked with all utensil/pots/serving ware, etc, the bathrooms were very nicely updated, and the beds were comfortable. Our small children LOVED rolling down the hill in the backyard, as well as cooking smores at the outdoor fire pit. And I enjoyed watching the fireflies in the grass in the evenings. We appreciated the list of suggested restaurants in Boone and Blowing Rock that Mark provided (we really liked the food at Woodlands BBQ!). While in the area, we visited Grandfather Mountain, Tweetsie Railroad, Valle Crucis park, the Moses Cone property (the walk around Bass Lake and up to the apple barn was a perfect “hike” for us, with small children), and Docs Rocks Gem Mining (another big hit with the kids). We also spent a fair amount of time at the house as we had a lot of rain the second half of our trip. Luckily, it is a nice place to hang out :)
The View Takes Your Breath Away
Our entire experience was great from beginning to end, from the quick responses from Mark and Lisa to even after checkout. They were so quick to respond when we had a question and suggested many to-do’s and places to eat. The cottage is very clean and was everything we needed for our getaway. Can’t wait to return to this beautiful area.
We are glad you enjoyed your visit. We hope you will stay with us again in the future.
Awesome location above the ski slopes.
We were worried about the icy conditions and being that high up but they salt the roads pretty often so no real worries. The ski place makes snow here and there and it seems like it’s snowing over the whole area as it really blows that high in the air. We drove through it not knowing and thought it had started snowing in the area. Great location high above the ski slopes...you can even see the parking lot of the ski place and gauge how many people are there at any time. We like to try different places but this is worth a return trip. The view off the wrap around porch is breathtaking.
So glad you guys enjoyed your ski vacation and that you found our perch at 4000 ft easy to navigate. We look forward to having you back!
Family Ski Getaway Weekend
Great property to escape into the mountains with…! The exterior truly has a cozy cottage appearance, while on the inside had plenty of space to spread out for my family. The house was very clean and well-maintained. I was initially concerned about the drive up since I came with a car, (not an SUV), but was very happy to find that the roads were easy to navigate and well maintained – even all the way up to the high elevation where the house sits. To that end, what a GREAT VIEW from the deck! The pictures on the site were great, but WOW in-person. I also appreciated the tips about what to do / where to go in Blowing Rock and really enjoyed the quaint town, but could have easily just sat on the deck all day enjoying the amazing view.. The accessibility to Appalachian Ski Mountain was a huge plus. It’s very reasonably priced and was perfect for a ski weekend getaway with my 5 and 9 year olds. We took advantage of the French Swiss Ski College there with lessons and they had the best time. My only regret is not booking a longer stay, but the kids loved it so - I’ll be back.
Thanks so much!
Glad you enjoyed your stay! Having Appalachian Ski Resort so close is a great feature of our place and it is perfect if you have kids that are learning to ski. The staff is so pleasant, prices are good and they have full service ski school. Sounds like you guys had the same experience we have had when skiing there.
There is so much to see and do in the Blowing Rock area. The Blue Ridge Parkway is 3 miles away with abundant hiking and fabulous views. Moses Cone is on the Parkway and only 4 miles from the house. There are lots of restaurants to choose from in both Boone and Blowing Rock. Tweetsie is so close you can hear the train whistle and sometimes see the smoke rising from the locomotive. If you like golf. Boone Country Club is public, close by and one of my favorites. Grandfather mountain is 20 miles away with the famous swinging bridge, festivals (including the Highland games) and many miles of hiking. For family skiing and snowboarding, you will look down on the Appalachian Ski resort, which is only a 2 mile drive to the bottom for lift tickets. For the more advanced skiers, Sugar Mountain ski resort is only 20 miles away.
