About this property

Starry Nights Luxury Camping - OPENING SPECIAL

Upon arrival, guests receive a WELCOME PLATTER with Australian organic sparkling wine.

Sitting gently beside the tumbling waters of Petrie Creek, and touching the earth lightly… Starry Nights Luxury Camping is surrounded by wilderness with fresh, clean air. Starry Nights is nestled in the tranquil forests of the Sunshine Coast Hinterland and just over: 10 minutes to Montville and 20 minutes to Mooloolaba Beach. Each of our 75 sqm bespoke tents are set on the hillside with old recycled barn floorboards, hand carved stone basins and a cozy roaring wood fire. Each safari tent also has king sized beds with organic linen, flushing toilets and a hot steaming bath and shower. The beautiful guest lounge is a hub of laughter and new friendships. Your owners and hosts and allow only 2 bookings/groups at any one time ensuring your total privacy and a relaxing and peaceful retreat.

No one can really tell you what it is like to step inside one of Starry Nights luxury tents - you must feel it for yourself. Placed amongst native eucalypts and rolling hills, you’ll be lulled to sleep by the sounds of the forest.

Each safari tent is positioned so that it cannot be seen by guests in another tent. The tents are big (with over 75 sqm of floor space) and have a raw, earthy feeling and have these stunning features:
• old recycled barn floorboards and an elevated deck
• hand carved stone basins,
• a cozy roaring wood fire,
• pillow top king-sized beds with organic linen,
• a well-stocked kitchenette
• flushing toilets
• a hot steaming rain-head shower and a free-standing bath
• plush gowns

What’s it like in winter?
Once the giant window flaps are rolled down you can rest assured that you’ll be toasty. The fireplace can be rotated to face any direction in the tent, whether you want a soak in your steaming hot bath or snuggle in bed. Luxury bedding is provided including organic linen sheets and natural woolen blankets and rugs.

In summer you’ll be glad to know that all our tents are insulated. Being off the ground and with such large windows all around, they capture breezes from the surrounding forest. There are also 4 ceiling fans for any really warm days.

Starry Nights safari tents where designed and made by the owners – Shane and Nicole with the help of some friends, family and Shane’s father. From the cutting of the great steel frame to the crafting of the furniture was all done by Shane.

The hosts and owners have made sure that their tents have been made using natural building materials without harsh chemicals. The joists are kiln dried hardwood (not H3 treated pine). The floor is finished with a natural hard bees’ wax oil (not polyurethane). The kitchenette is made from solid wood (no plastics). The very sheets you sleep in, and donnas and rugs are either organic linen or natural wool fiber. They’ve incorporated all the design elements from a building biologist who has studied the tents and property.

What can we do each day?
At Starry Nights you can do as much or as little as you like.

For many of our guests, a stay at Starry Nights Luxury Camp is a well-earned chance to sleep in, on the plush pillow top king sized beds, enjoy a long lazy breakfast on the verandah with the paper, perhaps a couple of hours on the beach with a good book before heading back for an afternoon snooze or sitting under the stars. Or walk down to the tumbling waters of Petrie Creek. Take a walk along the track of our own little part of the Hinterland’s rainforest. For those who enjoy company, like-minded guests often gather around the guest lounge fireplace, for a drink, a chat and always lots of laughter.

For others, it is a base from which to get busy exploring the spectacular Sunshine Coast with its pristine beaches or hinterland with the award-winning national parks, and mountain villages like Montville, Mapelton and Maleny, a true playground for the outdoor enthusiast. A few minutes away there are lots of things to experience, being just over:
• 10 minutes from the mountain village of Montville,
• 11 minutes to Coles/Woolworths
• 12 minutes to Kondalilla Falls and Kondalilla National Park
• 20 minutes to Alex and Mooloolaba beaches,
• 20 minutes to theme park Aussie World
• 25 minutes to Eumundi markets
• 25 Minutes to Underwater World Sea Life
• 27 Minutes to Maleny
• 29 minutes to Australia Zoo

Amazing experience with everything you need
The perfect getaway for a couple or families. The tent is well thought out and the inclusions are good value for money. You have everything you need on the property and plenty to explore, however close enough to local attractions for a day out. We were extremely impressed and all had a great time. We will be back!

About the host

Shane and Nicole are the owners, managers and builders of Starry Nights Luxury Camping. Nicole practices as a medical doctor specializing in integrative and nutritional medicine. Shane has spent most of his life as a veterinarian. When we started, we still had dependent children in school in Canberra and it was a big move giving up our secure jobs to risk everything we had worked so hard for, especially for what many friends considered a risky idea! We had been camping for years, erecting out tent and loving the outdoors and have always thought more people have to experience this amazing creation. We’ve usually invited friends with us on our camping trips, but we were not able to bring everyone. So Starry Nights Luxury Camping began. After years of ‘dreaming’, many camping trips and discussing our ideas, and generally working up the courage to take the plunge we started on the journey which took 2 years to build, plant and landscape Starry Nights. After searching for over 3 years, for the perfect property to build our campsite we found – Starry Nights – a beautiful property full of wildlife, ridges, hills, creeks, trees and spectacular views and we fell in love.

We wanted to create an experience as close as possible to camping in the wilderness with a fire, a creek and an actual tent (not a cabin made from canvas). It’s earthy, raw and a real camping experience but we also wanted to combine it with luxury (like an ensuite, soft king-sized beds, organic food, 75sqm safari tents, fireplaces and steaming hot baths).

We’re off grid in that we harvest our own rainwater, use solar electricity and we live sustainably with organic food, using what is around us like wood for heating.
For a long time we’ve had a vision to touch the earth lightly like they did in the days of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.

Why they chose this property

It also met our 3 big criteria – it had:
• a rain forest and was sounded by undulating hills,
• a permanent creek with stony banks and riverbed (with swimming holes),
• a great location, just over – 10 minutes from Montville, 20 minutes to Alex and Mooloolaba beaches, and just over 1 hour from Brisbane.

What makes this property unique

Each safari tent is positioned so that it cannot be seen by guests in another tent. The tents are big (with over 75 sqm of floor space) and have a raw, earthy feeling and have these stunning features:
• old recycled barn floorboards and an elevated deck
• hand carved stone basins,
• a cozy roaring wood fire,
• ceiling fans,
• pillow top king-sized beds with organic linen,
• a well-stocked kitchenette
• flushing toilets
• a hot steaming rain-head shower and a free-standing bath
• plush gowns
