Nice stay but with note feedback
We had a pleasant stay in this home , on the outskirts of Newcastle suburbia. We would like to provide some feedback about the property and the owner for future occupiers.
Penny was most accomodating in allowing us to transfer our booking over Xmas to Easter due to COViD.
Upon arrival the home looked presentable, with most amenities. One note would be whilst clean the doors or windows must have been left opened as it was full of fruit flies 50-60 we killed on the first night). There was also a previous occupiers ‘nose residue on the walls’ which we cleaned. And there was cat urine on the front door, which emitter a pungent smell. We tried to clean this but it is quiet stubborn.
As our stay progressed we noticed a few things that perhaps dropped our overall enjoyment. Considering we paid the peak rate for this type of property we expected a little more.
The shower drain was blocked on our first night with hair causing it to flood. I notified the owner and took it upon myself to clean. My wife also started sneezing and we realised the air conditioning filters had not been cleaned for a ‘long’ time. I also took this duty upon myself to clean.
The dryer is situated in the seperate garage. Therefore you have to walk outside to get to this. I would presume you reason it is in the back of this location is the fan belt is squeaky and it does not dry the clothes (we tried numerous times).
The front lights to the house also did not work. We were left fumbling on our first night and the next day we went to purchase a torch. I notified the owner but this was not fixed.
We were also approached by a gardener, early on a morning during our stay, to do the lawns and hedges. I declined this and was given a well of that is how you feel mate. I offered him to come back and I raised this with the owner. She actually argued with me this was a more attractive action than seeing it as an intrusion (she later apologised).
The kitchen utensils are worn (be warned the toaster and frypans are ‘well used’. We appreciated the fresh milk - thank you.
Lastly it is to be noted the property is 100 metres from an industrial steelworks. This emits a constant thrumming 24 hours a day, so if sleeping in the back room this is quiet loud.
I hope this all helps both the owner and future attendees.
