Had some mice running around in and out of main level rooms. Wasps nest on upper floor (outside). Otherwise a great experience!

About the host

Host profile image
Pioneer in the BC wine business, Roger Hol became the first successful commercial grower of wine in the Similkameen Valley, boldly planting the largest vineyard in the valley, 1200 acres of viniferagrapes with over 70% being red. It was a big risk and everyone at the time said it wouldn’t be successful.

But it was, and these exceptional grapes were purchased by Andres Wines.

Over the years, Roger has been the director of BC Grape Growers Association, BC Wine Institute BC Agriculture Tour Alliance and BC Starling Control Association funded by growers, regional districts, the Provincial and Federal Government and supported by BC-SPA, WWF, as well as many birding associations across the province.

Through Roger’s affiliations as director of these groups, and knowing most of the wineries and growers in the Similkameen, he was able to create the alliances which gave space for the Similkameen Wine Growers Association and helped shape the industry to what it is today.

Why they chose this property

Similkameen Wild was born on a hot summer day when Roger found himself hiking along the remnants of the old Dewdney Trail which runs just above our property. The smell of sagebrush perfumed the air, Nighthawks circled above. When he looked down from that viewpoint, he saw the perfect hidden oasis –– a place from days not so long ago: no traffic, no noise, just the Wild Similkameen...

From its humble beginnings as the Historic Allison Homestead, to the sweeping estate Similkameen Wild has become thirteen years later, we still often find ourselves up in those grassland hills, standing among the sagebrush, looking down on our grounds, seeing how far we’ve come, and drawing inspiration for all the years to follow.

Located a short, two minute drive off of the historic Crowsnest Highway, down a quiet dead-end road, Similkameen Wild is nestled in the Similkameen, one of Canada’s most unique and diverse regions. From our grounds you can witness 7,500 feet of unspoiled vertical mountain slope, explore eight acres of indigenous flora and fauna, and walk along 2000 feet of untamed river bed. Take in the awe-inspiring vistas from the forest while you meditate beneath the cool shaded gardens or swim in our gorgeous, heated saltwater pool.

What makes this property unique

There is a peacefulness here that is hard to explain. Perhaps its the mountains embracing the valley that provides the feeling of comfort.
