Freezing dog box
When we arrived, the apartment was freezing 66 degrees Fahrenheit. We immediately contacted the agent, who said that they would attempt to address the situation. I followed up every half hour for two hours, by which time the temperature had dropped to 64, and they were unable to provide an estimate of when the problem would be fixed.
We arranged to stay somewhere else and as we were leaving, a young man arrived with one small heater for a two bedroom (three spaces) apartment. It would never have heated the space.
Sonder reneged on the promised refund on the basis that they offered heaters - I quickly responded that this was not the case but they won't relent. We feel that this is a rip-off.
Sonder could have set the building to heat. The forecast a day ahead was for a cold day. It was Spring in Chicago - variable weather - they should have put heaters in the room. They should have been able to provide heaters "on request" as they promised not when they would get around to it. They should have provided adequate heating not a token.
The apartment was supposed to be two bedroom but they had merely cut into the living space by walling off a section (not to the ceiling, mind, as I suspect that may have breach some rule). This meant that there were two tiny bedrooms and a tiny living space.
The area was noisy due to a train a couple of blocks down. This could have been ameliorated by the use of double glazing (which would have also helped with the cold).
Don't stay here.
