About this property

Charming Farm House on 460 Acre Working Farm

The Pond House is a late 19th century farmhouse, completely restored in 2010. Set amidst a 460 acre working farm on a quiet dirt road. It has 3 bedrooms, 2 full baths, living/dining room, kitchen, den, laundry, deck and Wi-Fi.

Visitors on our farm are welcome to collect fresh eggs in the morning for breakfast. In the spring, summer, and fall watch the Black Angus graze on the pastures while drinking coffee, walk the trails through the woods, enjoy a picnic in one of the high pastures overlooking the Catskills, cool off with a jump off the dock into the pond, cook dinner in the fully stocked kitchen, or read a book on the deck overlooking the pond. In the winter the pastures and barns are quiet as most of the animals have gone to market. Sledding, snowshoeing, cross country skiing, skating on the pond, and winter walks make up the days, weather permitting of course.

Chatham is a charming small town with an independent movie theatre, a bakery, coffee shop, cheese shop, local brewery, local food co-op, several restaurants, an independent bookstore, and a farmer’s market in season. Chatham and the surrounding towns have farms producing grass fed beef, prize winning cheeses, wineries, organic vegetables and fruits, locally made jams, chutneys, pastries and breads, beer and spirits. Great local food abounds.

Family Getaway
Charming home in a beautiful setting. Simple and stylish furnishing. The kitchen is well equipped and made cooking a pleasure. The house is convenient to many great towns, farm stands and activities. Old Chatham is a sweet town with a great cheese shop and nice restaurants.

Complete Escape from reality
The description and pictures of this listing do not do this place justice. The house is wonderfully appointed and exactly as described; it has everything you will need for a week. The property is a what sets this place apart. It complete escape from suburban and city life. The sounds of the frogs, crickets, cows kept us entertained for hours. We fished, kayaked, and swam in the pond every day....and even caught fish! The house sits on a dirt country road, with a few lovely neighbors nearby, but is only a few minute drive from Chatham with great restaurants, supermarket, and cute stores. We will definitely come back.

Spectacular Farm and Farmhouse
My family (two parents and a 6 year old) spend one full month (July) on Highland Farm and it was fabulous. You can sit for hours on the deck enjoying the changing light and colors on the hills, pond and cows. Listen out for the frogs and screech owl. And the nighttime sky from the deck is spectacular and dramatic. There is plenty of room to roam and walk around the farm with beautiful close and distant views. The farmhouse sits in what amounts to a private valley, with very little traffic on the road. The pond is not just pretty to look at, swimming in it is a joy. Oh, how could I fail to mention the farm fresh eggs laid in a coop just feet from the house for our picking each day. We had a spectacular time staying at Highland Farm and would highly recommend.

Nice home &view needs details upgraded
Lovely old country home with great view of pond out back. We did NOT know it sat right on a dusty country road. Great new workable kitchen, but needs to replace beat up silverware, old cloth napkins. No window shades in downstairs bedroom, but owner got some installed a few days later. Nice big bath upstairs. Two nice bedrooms upstairs, towels are old and mismatched, need to be replaced, some of the sheets had holes in them. A nice bed is very important when staying two weeks, ours was very hard so we bought egg crate toppers, for two beds. We really did enjoy our stay, the owner Andrew was very accommodating. But the details I mentioned would really make it a little gem, and make all the difference. For the weekly cost, we expected nicer amenities.
