It has been my home since 2001. My friends who come to visit for the day often say they feel like they're on holiday.
Architecture:
The Loghouse was built in 1977 from giant yellow cedar logs milled on-site. The natural finishes continue throughout the house with river rock fireplace, granite countertops, hardwood and slate stone floors throughout. Due to its unique typology amidst contemporary homes in the neighborhood, it was a regular stop for tour buses over many years.
There is a self-contained and separate basement suite which is usually tenanted by 2-3 quiet students. You may see them walking on the driveway in and out of the suite which is accessed from the carport.
Connections:
From the beach out front you are connected by greenways & bikeways to the very best that Vancouver offers: to the west is UBC, the Museum of Anthropology & nudist Wreck Beach; east is Jericho Beach year round sailing, Folk Festival, Kits Beach, Granville Island, downtown & Stanley Park. 4th, 9th and 10th Avenues nearby have lots of good dining & shopping
Technology:
We encourage our guests to be as unplugged as possible however we have broadband internet access high-speed with wifi access throughout the house, a television in the main bedroom and a projector TV in the living room. TVs are connected to cable as well as Chromecast devices for Netflix YouTube etc. Mobile/cellular signal strength is generally good. Feel free to use our landline for no-charge local calling and our guest smartphone (with free data, North America calling & international texting).
Off the main floor there is a large side & front deck barbecue and entertainment area.
The decks over the carport and off the main and number 2 bedrooms on the upper floor are unfinished and will be renovated off season (when no guests are present).
I'm available by STM (preferred) or WhatsApp messaging.
Locarno Beach sits just 6 kilometers from downtown Vancouver, abutting the Pacific Spirit Regional Park. There are a number of wonderful trails for walking and cycling nearby, as well as shopping and dining options.
Best way to get around is by bicycle or on foot. Bicycles for five adults are available to guests at no charge (three singles and a hybrid tandem).
It is a 10 minute walk to local transit (see translink dot ca bus stop #50350 or #50276).
The Loghouse is a $40 cab fare, $52 limo fare from airport or $18 cab fare from downtown. It is well served by public transit; depending on your destination stops, buses are all within 10 minutes walk: for more information on public transit see translink dot ca.
