About this property

Coastal Bush Hideaway

Relax at Candlebark Ridge, a luxurious off-grid tiny home nestled amongst native bushland overlooking the Tasman Sea. An adults only experience for those seeking adventure on Tasmania’s stunning east coast.

Breathe in the cool, clean air and listen to the sounds of native bird life while you soak in the spectacular sweeping views over the ocean below. Located just outside the township of St Marys, the gateway to some of Tasmania’s world class beaches, mountain biking trails and wine routes.

If you're a lover of adventure and the great outdoors, our fully off-grid tiny home accommodation is the perfect destination for you.

Nestled on the hillside of an expansive 18-acre parcel of native bushland, Candlebark Ridge offers breathtaking views of the ocean and surrounding farmland.

Whether you seek a romantic escape with your loved one, a weekend of relaxation with a friend, or simply a place to unwind by yourself with uninterrupted naps and good books, this space is tailor-made for you.

We invite you to kick back, unwind, and immerse yourself in the nature surrounding you.

** PLEASE READ BEFORE BOOKING **

Due to the steep gradient of our driveway, access to the car park is via All-Wheel Drive vehicles only.

Guests arriving in Two-Wheel Drive vehicles will need to park at the top of driveway before the gates and take the rest of the journey on foot (around 80 metres to the flat carpark area).

From the car park area, there are 25 man-made steps down to the tiny home. While descending, make sure to stop, look up, and take in the gorgeous views on the way down.

You will have total privacy during your stay - other than the occasional wallaby, wombat, wedgetail eagle or echidna stopping by to say hello!

** Please note that we do not have Wi-Fi or TV **

The idea of our escape is to switch off and enjoy the peace and quiet, without relying heavily on technology. There is reasonable service for those with Telstra and Optus who wish to use cellular data for watching shows/movies on their handheld devices or laptops.

Hi, we are Nick & Joel. We love travelling and adventure. We have stayed at short-term rentals all over the world, and wanted to one day open one of our own - which we have now done! We get a real kick out of fussing over every minor detail and creating an immersive stay for our guests.

Why they chose this property

We found and purchased this 18-acre parcel of land back in 2020 during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. It soon became an escape for us - somewhere we felt completely at ease. We used to drive to the block and sit on the sloping hill breathing in the cool fresh air, taking in the sounds of the native birds above us and the crashing waves below us. It was clear to both of us that we had found somewhere magical that we needed to preserve, but also share with the world one day.

We spent the majority of 2021 and 2022 working hard to gain access to the block and carve out a road and driveway down to what is now our tiny home pad. We did the majority of this ourselves, with some help from local earthmovers who understood our desire to leave the trees standing
and the natural habitat in tact.

The tiny home was built in Cygnet (Southern Tasmania) throughout 2023 by a local couple who had just completed their own tiny build - we were their first ever commercial build. They listened to our ideas and helped us create what we think is a truly unique and luxurious off-grid experience. Every inch of the home is hand crafted, and you can feel the huge amounts of heart and soul that went into the build process by Red Verandah Designs. We could not be happier with the final outcome.

While there are a few things we would still like to do to enhance the stay of our guests, we could not wait any longer to share this place with the world! We hope you enjoy your stay.

What makes this property unique

We think our property is unique mainly because of it's remote and incredible location - providing out-of-this-world views of native bushland and the expansive ocean.
