Southport: the Original Gold Coast Holiday Hub

Beaches & Water Sports in Southport
Right in Southport, the Gold Coast Seaway Dive Site lets visitors dive or snorkel close to shore. The dive site at the mouth of the Nerang River reaches 15 metres in depth, and is home to a variety of marine life, from turtles and stingrays to colourful fish. Rarer species, such as sea horses, can also be spotted quite frequently.
800 m from shore, divers can explore the Scottish Prince Dive Site, which sunk while carrying whiskey to Brisbane from Glasgow and is now inhabited by coral.
Main Beach, Southport’s 2 km stretch of sand, is the oldest beach on the Gold Coast, with a bathing pavilion dating back to the 1930s. Today, the pavilion is a trendy café. This beach is a popular spot for surfing and fishing. The foreshore is lined by chic eateries and boutiques, as well as fish & chip stands.
Southport and the Gold Coast for Families
There are many parks in the Southport area and on the Gold Coast, most with playgrounds and BBQ facilities. Southport’s Broadwater Parklands hug the coast for 3 km and offer an expansive playground with equipment for kids of all ages. There’s are also a rockpool, where children can cool off and splash about.
Southport is a short drive to the Gold Coast’s theme parks. Spend the day riding roller coaster after roller coaster, or make your way to Sea World, where children can learn about the species that inhabit the waters just off the coast. Getting to Southport
Southport is half-an-hour’s drive from the Gold Coast Airport and under an hour’s drive from Brisbane. It is also possible to reach Southport by direct coach service from Brisbane, in about an hour.
