Why a hall for 'Odd Fellows'?
The Independent Order of Odd Fellows began in England in the 1800's. It was a Friendly Society formed to create financial security for its members and deliver relief during times of illness, tragedy and unemployment. This building housed the Loyal Balmain Lodge of Odd Fellows for over a hundred years.

Kitchenette: bar fridge, microwave, toaster, kettle, portable single hot plate, electric fry pan, crockery, cutlery, pots & pans. No oven.
Bathroom: shower, toilet, washing machine, clothes dryer, ironing board & iron.
Courtyard: small courtyard with table & 4 chairs at rear of studio accessed via the kitchenette.
Children: Not suitable for children from 1-6 years. Babies and older children on request. A travel cot and change mat are provided.
Parking: is available on the street. There is no off street parking.
Accessibility: not wheelchair accessible but has easy access for those with limited mobility. Has two steps from street level. One 3 inches high, the second 7 inches high. Walk in shower with 2cm lip at shower base.
Things to know:
* No pets, non-smoking inside the studio.
* Studio is near the historic London Hotel. On warm weekend evenings there may be some noise from patrons sitting on the hotel balcony. Normally it is not an issue.
* 2 foot thick sandstone walls means great sound insulation but patchy mobile reception. You may need to go outside to use mobiles. A land-line phone is now available offering free calls to any Australian land line. Outgoing calls to mobiles, 1300 & international numbers are blocked. All types of incoming calls are received.

Shopping: Nearby Darling Street is bustling with shops offering arts and crafts, quality homewear, books, gourmet foods and fabulous fashion.
Restaurants: Whatever your taste in cuisine, Balmain will have a restaurant to cater. From Asian to Australian, or fine dining to simple comfort food, Balmain has it all.
Fantastic Pubs: Thanks to its shipbuilding roots, Balmain once boasted a working-man's pub on every corner. Ask a local for directions and they'll probably guide you by pub names. Times have changed but Balmain still offers more historic watering holes per square mile and per capita than any suburb in Sydney. So it's no surprise that many visitors come here just to sample Balmain's excellent pubs. You can enjoy live music, hand-crafted beers and some excellent food.
Markets: Saturday Balmain Markets at St Andrews Church for chic arts & crafts - 2 min. walk. Or head to Sunday Rozelle Markets by bus.
Parks: Visit nearby Gladstone Park for good food, Barefoot Bowls and children's playground. 2 min. walk.
Harbour side Picnic spots, parks & playgrounds: at Mort Bay, East Balmain & Elkington Park. Ballast Point Park is a former industrial site transformed by architect Phillip Coxall into a harbour side retreat with picnic and barbecue areas and views to die for. 10-25 minutes walk
Historic Sea pool in Elkington Park named after Olympic swimmer Dawn Fraser. You can swim in perfect safety then have a coffee at the kiosk. Bus or 25 min. walk.
Direct Ferries: to Luna Park, Cockatoo Island, Darling Harbour & Circular Quay
