Description

A comfortable house with a 'beach shack' feel, with 4 bedrooms, situated between Goolwa Beach and the Murray River Lake foreshore. We are near the South Lakes Golf Course, close to AquaCaf restaurant and Goolwa Aquatic Club, Goolwa Regatta Yacht Club and the new Ballast Stone Restaurant at the Wharf, all just a 10 minute walk. This is a private holiday home, in a great holiday area protected by native gardens & trees.

Our house rates highly on this website totally by positive guest approvals and our good service. It is a quality two-storey house at South Lakes. It has four (4) bedrooms with one being a large bunk house layout downstairs.

Goolwa is a 70 minute drive from Adelaide by the Hills road (Mt Barker & Strathalbyn) or by the Victor Harbor Road. You don't need to bring much to have a great time.

[Guest comment in 2010: "We had a fantastic long weekend. It was very quiet and relaxing and the way you have set up the home meant we had everything on hand. The open plan of the house meant that we could have our own space but still talk to each other! On Sunday morning we went for a walk around the area and it felt like we had been away for weeks. It really felt like our holiday house, so thank you so much for sharing it with us." Ali & Brian, Adelaide.]

[And June 2011: "We recently had to attend a family event in Goolwa and would normally use a motel for such a sudden visit but this was so much better. The instructions were foolproof, the place was spotless and had everything that you would normally reach for at home. We are home again now and it seems like it was with much less effort than usual and we can only put it down to being able to relax like we were at home."]

Nature: You will hear the rolling ocean, just beyond the golf course. Goolwa Beach has very rare on-beach access for careful 4WD adventurers to the Murray Mouth and beach fishing. The sheltered saltwater Coorong boat ramp at Beacon 19 is just a few minutes drive down Barrage Road, for fishing in tidal waters near the Mouth. Bird watchers will be amazed with the wild life. This is Five Star Wilderness without the hype and just a few minutes from our house.

The house has comfortable room for 7-8 people, or for two flexible families with children. Comfortable modern furnishings and a big split system heat/cool air-conditioner unit are a feature. Toilet facilities upstairs and down. Under the balcony there's a big gas BBQ ready for dinner and breakfasts. Plus a Weber charcoal Kettle BBQ if you know how.

South Lakes Goolwa is ideal for families to enjoy water sports and fishing. The water is now flowing in the Murray at Goolwa and you have sea access by the famous Barrage Lock is open to cruise to the Coorong and Mouth. Water skiing, parasail boarding, trailer-sailing or even model boating is a feature of the protected lakes. You are just a minute from the water at Open House Goolwa.

Special Breaks for Couples

Our family house is attractive and clean with 'shack style' relaxation in the garden setting of South Lakes, a traditional holiday place of the early years style.

NOTE: For Couples wanting a few days away, we have a special deal with Linen & Cleaning provided.

For larger family groups we only ask you to bring your own Linen (sheets, pillow cases & towels). We have stand-by linen at the house, but it should be cleaned before you depart. Just let us know if used. ALL Beds are fitted with quality Dunas with Quilt covers, so all you need is basic linen and sheets. Sleeping for 6 people in Three Bedrooms upstairs: one has a queen size / one a double and the third, smaller bedroom has a set of single bed bunks. Downstairs sleeping for extra people.

Please Relax: If you don't want to cook, go to the nearby Golf Club where you are welcome for food & pokies; or the popular and trendy AquaCaf; or the many town hotels, clubs, cafes and bakeries. You can have your meals delivered. Check the Restaurant & Pizza contacts on fridge magnets!

On Arrival: Put on the kettle. Use our complimentary Coffee Bags & Tea bags as a welcome. Sit down and relax. Doing nothing is acceptable!

An hour from Adelaide - try our Sea Change and commute for a while...

Are you planning a Sea Change? Only an hour's drive and a quick Change of House creates an amazing positive feeling. Nature lovers know this is the best time by the seaside.

Search on line for goolwaboating and view the Gallery Panorama of the river.

Cycle Groups: you are very close to the Encounter Bikeway.
On Sundays and during school holidays the bikeway can be combined with the famous Cockle Train. Fantastic views of coast with many locations to stop and explore along the way including cafes, parks and historic towns of Middleton and Pt Elliot. Cycle Maps are available from Goolwa or Victor Harbor Visitor Information Centres.

We are NOT a Motel and prefer stays of two (2) + more nights. We have specials for OFF PEAK Mid Week longer stays - Sunday to Thursday. Contact us to discuss our flexible options. Ask about your Pets.

  • "My family and I stayed at Goolwa Open house or dearly known as "the shack" from sept 16 -20 2010. There were 7 of us as we came for my daughters wedding. we had a great time with many beautiful memories. I would love to stay at the shack on my return to Goolwa. "

  • "Comfortable, plenty of room for our family and boat, good to have kids downstairs and parents upstairs, close to boat ramp, quiet street, all we needed for a relaxing few days. Like to stay again sometime."
    Andrew, October 2009

  • "We had a lovely family weekend away. The house really does work well for larger groups of people. We had our older children and partners sleeping upstairs and we slept downstairs with the younger kids. Then for meals and family time we all hung out upstairs. The town is really lovely and we found plenty of great little places to eat. We had a lovely time exploring and doing the touristy thing but then really enjoyed our relaxation time at the house with the family. Overall we had a lovely time, the house was great for what we needed and the location was peaceful. Thanks very much for allowing us to make such a short reservation, next time we shall definitely be staying longer."
    Eric, March 2009

  • "The shack was brilliant. It was great to get a place that slept us all. To be honest I can't think of any improvements. Thanks heaps, and we'll make sure we get in contact with you again. Josh and Friends Barossa Valley"

  • "We all loved the house, was very comfortable (lovely sofa's) and had everything we needed. We loved our first visit to Goolwa and everyone was decidedly grumpy on leaving day. Even the dog seemed subdued."

  • ""Our weekend was better than we expected. The house was fantastic. It was very comfortable. We found there was enough room for all of us to sit outdoors together and more than enough room inside. The check-list that you have made up is an excellent idea, as it answers any questions that anybody would have." A.M. Fullarton, SA"
    Afroditi, June 2007

  • ""The house is in a lovely position and very comfortable." Frances & Family, Adelaide"
