Description

Garden Island Sands is located between the D'Entrecasteaux Channel and the mouth of The Huon River. There is plenty to do if you care to aimlessly take a drive about the area or simply explore the coastline from home.

There is direct beach access from the property through a narrow strip of reserve.

It is a less well known location to hide away and enjoy the peace and tranquility of a fully self contained home by the water.

In particular, Garden Island Sands has been traditionally a place that has seen only a handful of generations holiday and reside here. It has no through traffic to concern any parents and the beach is very child friendly.

We look forward to letting you in on a well kept secret.

The House

Enjoy beach, water and island views from the living room and main bedroom.

2 of the bedrooms each have a bunk with a single bed on the upper level and a double bed below.

The house is bright and airy with large windows in the living and dining rooms.

There is a secure section of the yard for dogs, and the beach is also dog friendly.

The property is flat with several outside sitting areas.

Activities

Small boats are able to be launched at Garden Island Sands. Larger boats need to travel to Charlotte Cove, 5km away for launching. If you have a penchant for fishing for flathead, bream, salmon, trevalley or baracouta, don't forget to take a rod or line.

The area is excellent for canoes and kayaks as there are coves, private beaches, creeks and islands to explore.

The beach is perfect for small children as it is very shallow. Garden Island Creek is also a favourite spot for children to swim in the summer. You can walk 300 metres around the rocks to Secret Beach, or drive to Randalls Bay or Verona Sands, both of which are around 7km away.

The township of Cygnet, providing your local shopping needs, is a quick, scenic, 12 km away, where there are also good restaurants such as the iconic 'Red Velvet Lounge' and 'The Conservatory'. Alternatively, you can try one of three pubs there as well.

Don't forget to try the award winning 'Peppermint Bay Hotel' at Woodbridge for an afternoon or evening meal, whilst 'Fleurty's' is well recommended between 11.00am and 4.00pm for a meal or coffee, nestled away at Flowerpot which overlooks Mount Wellington and Bruny Island.

'Panorama Vineyard' is a short drive away at Cradoc. It is an award winning vineyard, having had their Pinot Noir served in First Class by Qantas. Check their website.

'The Grandvewe Cheeses' is Australia's only sheep and cow's milk farm cheesery and vineyard situated at Birch's Bay. A great spot for a meal or tasting, visit their website for more information.

Bruny Island is yet another day excursion with Adventure Bay being where Cook, Bligh and Flinders all anchored. Alternatively, try Tasmania's 'ultimate environmental travel adventure' with Bruny Island Charters from Kettering or on the island at Adventure Bay.

The Tahune Forest Airwalk near Geeveston is a premier state attraction and will fill another easy day excursion.

These are not all the activities you can enjoy at Garden Island Sands. Your alternative of course is to simply do nothing!

  • "We have just spent our easter holidays in beautiful Garden Island Sands. The location is amazing, from the living room, deck and main bedroom their are uninterrrupted views of the water, garden island and the bush. The house is literally 2seconds walk to the beach. The beach is fantastically kid friendly as its very shallow, so great for paddling. The house is situated on a very quite road with a few friendly neighbours only about 40mins from Hobart. We had such a relaxing few days playing on the beach, lazing in the house and visiting local attractions. Highlights include fleurtys cafe with a wonderful sculpture trail walk, peppermint bay restaurant, a sheeps cheese factory, quaint cygnet village...the list goes on. The house itself is fantastic, not a shack at all. It has all the creature comforts of a home, with three large bedrooms, a fully stocked kitchen, seperate living and dining rooms, an electric and woodheater, bbq, washing machine, dvd/video player, numerous games/movies etc. It was just perfect for my family and our friends. We will DEFINITELY be returning soon! Thanks Roz and John"

  • "I have a large family and we had a very comfortable stay in what is a wonderful part of the world. Access is good and there is only a minor section of dirt road. Once there, you a literally 10 metres from the beach, with wonderful views to Green Island and further south. The weather during our stay was fantastic and the beach is very safe for children. The fishing is also great and small boating is safe and easy. The locals are very friendly and there is a warm sense of community down there. The owners are also very pleasant people and we felt very welcome. I would thoroughly recommend this property to anyone who is looking to "get away from it all." I suppose this brings me to one "draw-back" of my stay - you really have to be with Telstra next G to get mobile reception otherwise you have to lug up a hill to make calls - but this might be a plus if you are really looking to be away from the main stream!"
