Guest reviews:

It was quite obvious that you care about the cottage. The renovations have been tastefully done and in keeping I believe. I love the fact tht you have thought of the re-cycling and other environmental measures. I did not want to leave and felt right at home.

Thank you for a very nice weekend! We did marvellous walks and enjoyed the fire in the evening! Everything you need was available in this house to support an easy stay. Und die deutschen Kleiningkeiten waren auch sehr nett! Take care

We had a lovely but hectic weekend. The cottage was lovely with a great backyard for the kids, a well-equipped kitchen and room to move! Thanks Neil & Bev.

What makes Werona unique?

One of the oldest houses built in this hidden corner of Blackheath, Werona exudes a homely warmth, which radiates from its period features, lovingly restored and enhanced to meet modern lifestyle requirements.
The original cast iron fireplace, leadlight windows, doors with lots of old brass, heavy curtains and polished floorboards invite to relax and take in the scenery and fresh mountain air.

Gone are the 'period features' outside toilet, tiny windows, draughty walls and smelly coal burner - replaced by ducted gas and slow combustion heating, a modern gas kitchen with dishwasher, a large period bathroom (retaining the old bath found in the house). Full insulation and large double-glazed windows under awnings keep the house warm and bright in winter and cool in summer.

Families will love the sand pit, full height basketball ring with separate concrete patch, outdoor play equipment and toy box.

Couples will delight in the romantic 'leadlight room' with open fireplace, library and its own TV, as well as the original cast iron bathtub (seats two - at a pinch).

Nature lovers will become friendly with the parrots, native plants and rhododendrons in the backyard, and can find the track heads to beautiful Porters Pass and Fort Rock bushwalks and well-known rock climbing and abseiling areas 2 minutes from the doorstep.

As an added convenience, Werona is only 15 minutes by foot from the railway station and town centre with its cafes, famous bakery and antique shops. A custom-built wheelchair/disabled ramp can be placed at the front entrance on request to avoid steps altogether.

The property has been restored to conform with eco-property standards: fully insulated, thermally efficient solar design, solar hot water, choice of ducted gas or slow combustion wood heating, rainwater tank, composting facility, recycling encouraged. It is a truly liveable period home.

Room layout

The cottage has 3 queen bedrooms and one large bathroom with separate toilet. One of the bedrooms, the 'leadlight room', has its own cast iron fireplace, library and TV.
A recent addition is the north facing open plan kitchen/dining/living area and covered entertainment deck. Keeping in style with the original house, this area is perfect for groups and families.
Tucked under the house is a comfy and private 'granny flat', which sleeps 2. It ha sound insulation from the main house and its own bathroom with toilet.

Guest Reviews
The property was excellent and our stay was made so enjoyable by the small details-underfloor heating in the bedrooms and bathroom, lovely furnishings. We felt so at home.Would recommend it for a cosy base to relax and to explore the mountains.

We just loved this holiday at Werona.
The house was a perfect size for our family... grandparents, couple with 2 small children and adult uncle. The children enjoyed the yard and uncle had the downstairs room to get away if needed. Everything in the house seemed so convenient, clean and bright. We never felt closed in and always really comfortable.
Thank you Werona.

I just wanted to say a quick think you. Werona Cottage lived up to expectations - it was a wonderful place to stay. We are likely to be coming back again next year.
