Description

Australia Street Cottage offers contemporary style in an historic 1858 cottage. The interior is clean-lined and modern, but with a warmth that complements the extraordinary walls made of Sydney's unique Pyrmont sandstone, quarried in the mid-19th century by convicts.

With a queen bed, the cottage is perfect for singles and couples, and a queen sofa bed means it can accommodate small family groups. The kitchen is well equipped, the courtyard is sunny and private, the sound system is mp3 compatible, and the net access is broadband. The bathroom has a bath and hairdryer, the laundry a washer and dryer.

The cottage is in the ultimate inner-west position: a 15-minute taxi ride from the airport; a 3-minute walk from King St's restaurants, cafes, bars, shops, buses, trains, cinema, gym; a 15-minute train ride from Newtown Station to CBD, Opera House, Harbour Bridge; a 15-minute walk to RPA Hospital and Sydney University.

  • "What a fabulous cottage, beautiful and modern in renovation, and retaining its historic quality. Right in the vibrant humm of Newtown, and getting to any of the other Sydney attractions is very easy indeed. Certainly better value than a hotel, if only we could stay longer!"

  • "Our stay in Australia Street was wonderful! This beautifully restored cottage is delightful - spotless, comfortable and stylish, with everything we could wish for, and more. Two minutes to King Street, transport, restaurants and park, an excellent location. We loved being in the Cottage and will definitely look forward to future visits. Highly recommend for all, just perfect!"

  • "The cottage is beautiful, a wonderful slice of history which has been really thoughfully appointed for guests. The location is brilliant, so close to King St but very peaceful. it is spacious, so much nicer than a hotel for a few days stay, and the information pack re the area, amenities and history was a real bonus. Would definitely stay again."

  • "The cottage was gorgeous, and we had a fabulous stay. It really was home from home, and was ideally situated just 5 mins from the train station, and surrounded by a fabulous selection of coffee shops and restaurants. We would highly recommend this comfortable cottage, and will most definitely be staying again, when next visiting our family. "

  • "i booked the cottage for my 73 yr old auntie from the UK and her 24yr old granson and a friend over the christmas and new year period. It was all that was expected and more from the time i made the enquiry until a late check out on the day of departure everything went seamlessly. The owners could not have been more helpful and the cottage itself was unreal. The cottage is situated in a lovely street and they all got to know the locals as they sat out on the verandha on warm nights as Newtown life passed by. Opposite is a great park and its only 2 mins from thriving King Street and buses and trains into the city and beyond. This is a gem and so much more than a boring hotel room.As one of the boys said to me..i would love to live in this cottage!! Jane many thanks from all my relo's for making thier holiday so memorable. We will be using the cottage again for all visitors!!"

  • "I could not recommend this gorgeous cottage more highly. Fantastic position, very comfortable, clean with nice little touches - Jane has thought of everything. I felt it was a home away from home. I would stay again in a heartbeat, and look forward to doing so again."

  • "Absolutely and delightfully perfect! My 78 year old father, my sister and her 2 year old daughter stayed very comfortably in this gorgeously appointed cottage. Owner, Jane is so lovely to deal with and has such a great eye for detail, style and comfort. She doesnt seem to have missed a trick anticipating her tenants needs from the extra food staples in the cupboard to her up to date guide to staying in Newtown. However, my sister and I did come up with one missing comfort, a potato masher but I bet there is one there now! If you want to stay in Newtown you couldnt be better located. Across the road from the most beautiful and functional park which happens to house a picturesque church and cemetery dating back to 1848; around the corner from the areas most unpretentious gastro pub serving delicious gourmet food; and just a three minute walk to the epicenter of the high street and train station. In our case, three generations were happily housed to the point that my Western Australian father was dreaming of moving into the area. Good luck on your search but this is the best I have found. "

  • "My parents had a wonderful stay at Australia St Cottage on their trip from Scotland. This lovingly restored cottage with all its comforts is a real treasure only a short stroll to the buzz of King St and to Newtown Station-only 15 minutes to the city. The cottage is very tastefully decorated against the original sandstone wih many fine touches-plenty of DVDs, books etc and a lovely courtyard to relax in and enjoy breakfast or evening meal. Jane and Brian are wonderful hosts and were extremely kind and considerate to my parents who stayed for almost 4 weeks (a bit longer than planned due to the Icelandic volcano/flight delays-a very fine place to be under the circumstances!). We thoroughly recommend staying here and as my parents would endorse-an experience of Sydney you will not forget. Kathleen Scott and Family. "

  • "Thoroughly enjoyed our 19 days at the Cottage which enabled us to stay close to our son. Everything was exactly as described and so nothing could be faulted. Having been to Sydney before it was lovely to be staying away from the centre but still feel close with the excellent transport links.Newtown is a delightful area which is full of life for all ages.Being able to relax and entertain our son and his partner was a bonus. We would not hesitate to recommend the cottage to anyone and thanks to the owners Jane and Brian for being so nice and friendly. We will definately try and stay again. "
