Description

Australia Street Cottage offers contemporary style in an historic 1858 cottage. The interior is clean-lined and modern, but with a warmth that complements the extraordinary walls made of Sydney's unique Pyrmont sandstone, quarried in the mid-19th century by convicts.

With a queen bed, the cottage is perfect for singles and couples, and a queen sofa bed means it can accommodate small family groups. The kitchen is well equipped, the courtyard is sunny and private, the sound system is mp3 compatible, and the net access is broadband. The bathroom has a bath and hairdryer, the laundry a washer and dryer.

The cottage is in the ultimate inner-west position: a 15-minute taxi ride from the airport; a 3-minute walk from King St's restaurants, cafes, bars, shops, buses, trains, cinema, gym; a 15-minute train ride from Newtown Station to CBD, Opera House, Harbour Bridge; a 15-minute walk to RPA Hospital and Sydney University.

  • "We loved the cottage. It is modern and beautifully renovated but still retains its original charm and character. It has evrything you need for a home away from home and is perfectly located near King Street. We have already booked another visit."

  • "We enjoyed our stay at Australia Street Cottage very much. So well-appointed, so comfortable, it was truly home-from-home. This was our seventh visit to Sydney, only our first stay at ASC, but it certainly won't be the last ! It was without a doubt the best trip yet. The cottage and its facilities surpassed all our expectations and made for a most wonderful Christmas and New Year for us and for our family in Camperdown too. So much so that on Christmas Day we entertained our son, daughter-in-law and two grandchildren, when my wife and I served up a full, 5-course traditional English Christmas dinner, complete with roast turkey, stuffing, vegetables and all the trimmings. During our stay we also roasted an enormous joint of beef; and on another occasion produced a huge honey-glazed roast ham. As a family we do like our food !We're pleased to report that the well-appointed kitchen, and especially the superb cooker, passed every culinary test with flying colours. We would certainly recommend Australia Street Cottage to anyone like us, visiting the Newtown area. • "We found this cottage on the internet when we were looking for somewhere to stay to visit - and escape from - grandchildren who live in Dulwich Hill and Summer Hill. It was a wonderful and rare find, the historic cottage being beautifully renovated and all its furnishings and fittings first class. It fully deserves the awards it has won, and the owners were most helpful."

  • "On planning to visit our daughter "

  • "Thanks for a delightful stay at a very well equipped restored cottage. This cottage has everything needed and more. The sandstone is colourful and peaceful and provides a lovely atmosphere. We thoroughly enjoyed everything about the cottage and locality. Many thanks, Elaine, Brisbane. "

  • "Perfectly situated in a quieter corner of Newtown, Australia Cottage satisfied all our away-from-home needs. Just steps away we found wonderful shops, restaurants, cafes and bakeries. The frequent nearby bus service meant that we were mere minutes away from the core of the city. The cottage itself is a marvel of compact comfort and taste. Jane and Brian made certain we had everything we needed. Their warmth did the trick in thawing out 3 frozen Canadians. Happy to recommend this property to anyone looking for an oasis in the city (and hoping fervently to come back some day)."
