Description
Special: FabFeb where you get an extra night for any 2 or more. Include 28th Jan on - this time, close enough is good enough. There is also a bit of madness in may - simliar deal.

Welcoming many "I'll be back" Madders over the next few months. Hope you like the changes and new things.

The short description is =>
a double storey house, a studio, a river block.Space. Privacy.
Total Beds - 4 x Queen beds, 6 x single beds, 1 x addition of a double bed by arrangment.

New furniture and rearrangement =>
New comfy chairs ( MoonChairs in black) that can be taken around to suit in addition to the new seating arrangments that now mean the main lounge seats 9 as standard, and 7 in the Green Room lounge.
The upstairs lounge is more " movable" so that the trundle may be relocated to that space if required. 2 Moon Chairs, and a Cane setting replace the futon couch you see in the photo.
All rooms and floor plans current EXCEPT the upstairs lounge, and we can email photos of the double-bed-by-arrangment if this is for you.

BRIGHT REPORT:

Long live the extended family. 3 generations, Bedrooms lounges and bathroom each , and a big dining table for the main meal gettogether. New baby in the studio - so (almost) everyone will get their beauty rest.

VISITORS BOOK:

one visitors book entry will be written up ( word for word) each week. Once again forgot to write it down, but the cycling guys - a bunch of Monash Uni doods , were great guests!! - all had a very good time.

Description. WHERE WE ARE, & WHAT YOU WILL FIND @ MAD ON THE RIVER.

Includes COLOURED FURNISHED FLOOR PLANS
so you can choose your sleeping arrangements, or even your spot at the table - note main dining shows seats for 8 , but can easily seat 10 and there is another round table for 4 - with plenty of chairs here and there. AND 3 tables on the verandah.
Eat on your lap only if you want to.

WHERE WE ARE
7103 Great Alpine Rd - at exactly the "5 k's from Bright" road marker and exactly 1.3 k heading toward Bright from the big roundabout at Porpunkah/road to Mt Buffalo.

The MadHouse is 50 metres from the river at the back. (Fenced@30 metres for safety), and the block has trees along the side boundaries giving excellent privacy.
To the front of the property, the view is of a pine forest 80 metres away and over the road.It looks a lot closer in the photo.

We are :-
~ 0 zero klms to the Ovens River - its right behind the house.
1 Klm from the Rail Trail, with a track behind the house & along the river to get to it.
1 klm to Porepunkah along the track to shops, pub, petrol & parkonriver.
5 Klm from the Bright township. -- A bit further if you ride your bike on the Trail -an easy 20 to 30 minutes as a leisurely sightsee ride, and from go to woe in 11 minutes by our teenage son.
Not far from the golf, could walk , probably would drive.
Can walk to couple of wineries, drive or ride a bike to many more.
5 klm from the secret fishing spot - great for picnics, swims, even a small boat thingy..
~ 60 klm from Mt Hotham, ~ 80 klm from Falls Creek, and
~ 35 klm from Mt Buffalo/Lake Catani.
Beechworth, Mt Beauty, Buffaloe River and Dam.

WHAT WE HAVE

HOUSE plus STUDIO - Double Storey House accommodates up to 11 plus a cot. The real beds in the house are 3 queens, 1 single bunk, and 3 singles - includes 'take it where you need lift up" trundle. AND we have the option of an additional Pillowtop double bed in its own room ( but you lose one of the 3 loungrooms) we can provide by arrangement.

You can add the separate self contained studio unit with 1 queen & 1 single - and relocate the trundle to make it 1 queen and 2 singles, if it suits your group better.

The Studio is exclusive to each booking only.
Its yours, or its nobodies!

Large double garage with 2 doors can fit in up to 4 cars.or lots of bikes. Without the cars its the Table Tennis Tournament Arena, complete with drinks fridge.
Drying room doubles up as a secure lockup for bikes, golf clubs, naughty children, & the rambunctious at other times.
Just joking about the children.

WHATS IN the ROOMS DOWNSTAIRS.
Formal dining suite. Large extension table for 8-10 , 12 squeezy, & additional table 4 more if required. Plenty of dining chairs around the big table, and other strategic locations. Music/TV/DVD/VCR.
2nd Lounge area (the Green Room) music, ipod aux cable,TV/DVD, books, games, assorted movies etc.
Wood combustion heater plus electric convection wall heat.
(reverse cycle air-conditioning unit upstairs).
Master Queen Bedroom- Lift up trundle. Walkin robe, another wall heater.
Ensuite walkthrough bathroom with heat lamps, big massage shower, heated towel rail. (no, we do not know why the massage heads were put in that particular spot. The plumber was not tall ?)
Full kitchen with electric oven, gas hotplates, microwave, dishwasher, coffee espresso machine, large electric frypan, cake mixer , more than you need glasses, crockery, cutlery, woks, steamers, plastic ware, consumer products etc and etc.
Laundry with Maytag washer. Tumble dryer in the garage, just a step away, & steam iron , ironing board, vacuum, extra long Coax cable just in case we did not put the TV's in the right place, a hairdryer, , make me stop now - could go on and on.... oh, and fairy lights in the flower arrangement. Very pretty.
Opens to north facing undercover BBQ / veranda area overlooking the fully fenced garden.

MADHOUSE. The ROOMS UPSTAIRS.

WHAT IN the ROOMS UPSTAIRS.
Upstairs Lounge has TV/DVD/music Nintendo with games. Storage with cot, high chair,2 stair/door guards, extra bedding, special pillows. clothes racks, Additional heaters.
Bedrooms are 1 x queen, 1 x queen & single, 1 x double and single. Option of relocating the trundle bed.
Reverse cycle Aircon. 3 ceiling fans.
The bathroom has a full bath with shower over etc.

THE MAD STUDIO.

Separate but close-by 6 m x 6 m self contained motel style unit - one large room with an ensuite bathroom.
WHATS IN the STUDIO.
Lounge and TV/DVD/ music with 1 x Queen & 1 x single. ( Also has a futon we do not count as a bed) kitchenette with fridge ,microwave. kettle, toaster. electric convection wall heater , split system aircon. Wardrobe and storage.
The Studio is available ONLY for the use of each booking, if required, ensuring your group privacy.

OUTDOORS - see the "Block plan" to show that you have room to play, and the privacy desired.
Big covered veranda. 4 burner grill plate BBQ ( great for bulk lot bacon and eggs, or flapjacks ). Tables and chairs for 16. Extra chairs available on request for visitor drop ins. Party lights. swing. Umbrella with spot light over, ornamental grape vines.

GARDEN - basketball ring . garden hammocks. trees and more trees. Room to play.
FULLY fenced, with a rear gate to the river.
Wood shed. clothes line.

DOUBLE GARAGE - 8 m x 8 m . garage doors 2.4 x 2.7 separated from the house by a covered walkway.
Table tennis. Storage and other sports/ play equipment inc boogies boards, assorted balls , raquets, croquet.
A very handy out of the weather play space - with extra fridge for food and refreshments. Maybe even warm the area with the patio heater.
Can fit in up to 4 cars - perhaps will need doors up, using the eave for that bit extra length - , and doors good for most 4WD's - maybe not a troopy with a pod on roof , or similar.
Good if hot, frosty, wet, or hail.

PET POLICY for pet and non pet owners.
Not everyone holidays with pets, but we are a pet friendly property. To ensure beloved 4 legged ones are always welcome we have a PET POLICY.
This keeps everyone happy, including those who visit who DO NOT have pets.
We need to be advised if you wish to bring your pet, so we can send you the pet policy.

MOSTLY, bookings are not completely full house, but we are ready for it if you are.

IF you were a couple of couples, or few more couples you have options that are less expensive than some "couples only" type cottages, and you get a lot of Mad for your dollar.

We are good for all adults, 2 to 5 couples, and families - loads of options to suit loads of people combinations.
Only you will know what you want, but we will do our best to make it suit your needs to help you have a good holiday.
Comfort/privacy/facilities/space, and a good nights sleep - all important on the "what makes a good stay away" list.

We have a TOTAL of 4 Queen Beds, Special request option of another double, 6 Single Beds - and a Futon (Convertable couch - we do not count as a bed)

What it boils down to is :-
1.Parents do not have to pay a lot for the financial noncontributors ( children ).
2. All adult couple groups who want to spread out pay a bit more for that option.
3. Any group and combo can bunch up , or not, and pay accordingly.

"Mad" is a very versatile and livable place to stay - you will not feel crowded with a group or lost and lonely with only 3 friends.
One group even sent some of their extra large group of persons to the caravan park less than 200 metres away.
You can walk back to Mad by the track at the back.

No one has to use a vegemite glass - there is more than enough of what you need for all. You do not have to sit on the floor. Some will fight over which seat they get - as per normal. Nice spaces, taller ceilings, and on the practical side -3 refrigerators, showers are great, enough hot water, & boost button available j.i.c.

"NO SKIN OFF MY NOSE" policy
IF WE CAN offer early arrival or late check out - it will be yours! No charge. Sometimes we can GUARANTEE it at the time of booking.

THE STUDIO OPTION
The studio option, which is versatile and therefore a bit wiggly, is as follows :-
Add $80 per night. Less $160 for 7days Less $80 for 5 days.
STUDIO REBATE? - A discount can be negotiated if not all the bedrooms in the house are required when the studio is used. For Example - if you want the use of another Queen bed, and not the singles room upstairs.

WANT IT FOR LESS ?
A discount or an accommodation bonus can be arranged if your bring you own linen. Otherwise, it's all included.
We prefer to include it so it all looks nice when you arrive,but you have the option.

Paraglide. Snowslide. Hanglide. or just hide. Pick the fruit and make a pie. Partake a MadHattersTeaparty. Host a Murder Mystery.Walk the tracks behind the house. Behind the hill. whereever.Throw on some Lycra & hop on your bike.Go fish. Go Shop. Do Lunch. Do nothing.Walk ride or drive to a winery. Try a TimTam cake. Fish picnic swim rubberduckboat @ Chinaman's -we'll give you the map.
Motorbike ride the BEST road "round the blocks" in the state.Bright .Tawonga Gap. Mt Beauty. Happy Valley. Happy times. Keiwa Ovens Mitta Mitta High Plains Dinner Plain. The Blue Duck .Fantastic ride to a legendary hotel. Road the long way round soon to be sealed all the way.
That trip is a day trip , but we would like to take a single wheel motorbike trailer if we could anyway. Definitelyand especially when we go to the Grampions, Tasmania (again) and Gippsland via the Mountains.
Trail ride with anything ridable. Wheels or 4 legs. Adventure Horse Ride, or just relax horse ride.Boat Lake Buffalo. Canoe Lake Catani. Kayak if you can. Sometimes on the Ovens. Pick a lemon for your G&T - or peachs, plums, cherrys, or walnuts. Take some home. Apricot tree sadly barren. Golf. Tandem in a glider. Helicoptor tour. Abseil Buffalo. Or not.Ski.Snowboard. Be bored only if you want.Eat, drink, and be merry. Even very merry. Apparently there are SEVENTY wineries within an hours drive (or limo tour) and two that you would walk to without to much trouble. Walking back ? That's up to you.Open mike sessions. Lots of local music scene. Read a Book. ( Try to not take it home if its one of ours ) Go Pine cone and twig collecting - put them in the wood shed for winter.Go HotRodding, leaf watching, garden gazing. Lilo down the river from up stream to your friends waiting in the back yard with a hot BBQ and a coldie. It takes a couple of hours, so it could be visa versa.(wear shoes) Trim those fast growing grapes vines if they drop into the BBQ during your stay. You can SEE them grow in summer - look like sticks in winter - look rust red in autumn.. Turn on the party lights. Turn them off again.

This agreement together with any additional terms, conditions, notices and disclaimers contained elsewhere on any Stayz or Fairfax Digital website form the conditions of supply of material on, use of and access to those websites. From time to time, Stayz may run competitions, prize draws and promotions on Stayz. These will be subject to additional terms and conditions, which will be made known to you at the time.

Stayz is a referral forum for short term holiday lets less than 60 days. We charge the Owner an annual fee to list on the site and a fixed booking fee based on the number of nights booked in any booking.

By listing on the Stayz website, each property owner/agent agrees that he/she will within 30 days of a request from Stayz, provide Stayz with a Booking Report that confirms all bookings details for that calendar month, on the form provided by Stayz (the Items List). If an owner does not comply with this clause within 30 days of a request from Stayz, Stayz reserves the right to remove the property from the Stayz website without further notice.

Stayz reserves the right to audit both the enquiries made through Stayz sites and the bookings received by a property at any time.

By advertising their property on Stayz, Owners agree that they will pay the amounts charged for those bookings within 30 days of the invoice being forwarded to you. If you fail to pay any invoice, Stayz reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to remove the Material from the site and commence legal proceedings for recovery of any unpaid amounts.

Accuracy of information and disclaimer of warranties
All material on Stayz is provided in good faith. Your use of Stayz is at your sole risk. At Stayz we take your online security very seriously. As such, we have prepared the following guidelines and information to help you enjoy trouble-free browsing when visiting our site or interacting with our email messages.

Neither Stayz nor Fairfax Digital has any obligation to monitor any user's use of Stayz or Fairfax Digital, however Stayz and Fairfax Digital retain the right at all times to monitor, retain and disclose any information as necessary to satisfy any applicable law, regulation, legal process or governmental request.

By using Stayz and/or Fairfax Digital, you agree to indemnify Stayz and/or Fairfax Digital (as appropriate) if Stayz, Fairfax Digital or any of their related bodies corporate suffer any loss or damage or incur any costs in connection with any breach of these conditions or any other legal obligation by you or your use of or conduct on Stayz or Fairfax Digital.

Limitation of liability
Stayz and its related bodies corporate do not exclude any rights and remedies available to you under the Trade Practices Act (Cth) or any similar State or Territory legislation that cannot be excluded, restricted or modified. Otherwise Stayz and its related bodies corporate exclude all conditions and warranties that may be implied by law. To the extent permitted by law, Stayz' liability for breach of any implied warranty or condition which cannot be excluded is restricted, at Stayz' option, to:

in the case of services supplied or offered by Stayz:

  • the re-supply of those services; or
  • the payment of the cost of having those services re-supplied; and

in the case of goods supplied or offered by Stayz:

  • the replacement of the goods or the supply of equivalent goods;
  • the repair of the goods;
  • the payment of the cost of having the goods replaced; or
  • the payment of the cost of having the goods repaired.

You expressly agree and understand that in no circumstances will Stayz or its related bodies corporate be liable to you for any indirect, incidental, special and/or consequential losses or damages or loss of profits of whatever nature howsoever arising (including but not limited to any act or omission by Stayz or its related bodies corporate) which result from (i) the use of or access to or any inability to use or access Stayz or any material on Stayz; (ii) unauthorised access to or alterations of your transmissions or data; or (iii) statements or conduct of any third party on Stayz. Excluding liability for negligence, the maximum liability of Stayz and its related bodies corporate is equivalent to the total of any amounts you have paid to Stayz and its related bodies corporate in respect of goods or services supplied to you by Stayz or its related bodies corporate through Stayz.

In no circumstances will Stayz or its related bodies corporate be liable to you for any direct, indirect, incidental, special and/or consequential losses or damages or loss of profits of whatever nature howsoever arising which result from any Material or property listed on Stayz by an Owner, Renter or third party, nor from the conduct of any Owner or Renter in relation to the property in question.

Applicable law
These conditions and all other specific and additional terms which govern your use or membership of and access to Fairfax Digital will be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the state of New South Wales, Australia.

Provision of Material for Use on Stayz
These terms apply to any Material submitted by you to Stayz for posting on Stayz, the Fairfax Digital Network or on any third party’s website or for publishing in any publication.

You agree that by submitting any Material to Stayz:

  • you grant Stayz a worldwide, royalty-free, perpetual, license to use, reproduce, edit and exploit the Material in any form or on any medium and for any purpose, including posting the Material on any Fairfax Digital or third party website or publication, using the Material in any promotions and marketing, and sub-licensing the Material;
  • you warrant that you own all rights, including intellectual property rights, in the Material;
  • you have the authority to grant this license to Stayz;
  • you warrant that the Material does not breach any laws, including defamation laws;
  • so far as you are able, you unconditionally waive all moral rights (as defined by the Copyright Act 1968 (Cth)) which you may have in respect of the Material. Further, you unconditionally consent to any act or omission by Stayz in relation to the Material which may otherwise be an infringement of your moral rights; and
  • the Material does not contain anything that is obscene, pornographic or in breach of any law or regulation.

You agree to indemnify Fairfax and its related bodies corporate for any loss or damage arising as a result of your breach of these terms.

Conditions of use specific to Google maps
The Google Maps service is provided to Stayz and made available to you under license from Google Inc. Definitions

Material: means text, graphics, photos, other media and/or other information you provide for the purposes of advertising a property on Stayz;

Negligence, wherever used includes our negligence as well as the deliberate or negligent acts of others;

Owner: means the person or company who represents themselves as being the registered proprietor, agent or administrator of a property;

Renter: means a person seeking to enquire about or stay at properties referred to in material on our Site;

Sites: means all websites, Internet access portals, URLs capable of being accessed by a browser, including WAP and other formats operated and maintained by Stayz or Fairfax Digital;

Us, we, our: means Stayz Pty Limited ABN 41 102 711 599 and its related bodies corporate;

Just like being at home! The house was both cosy and comfortable. We loved the location – close to the rail trail for walks with the dog & easy to visit the wineries by foot. Cheryl made the booking process flexible and easy and the extras were just a godsend. We will all definitely be returning to stay at MAD.

What a place! The house was fantastic and had absolutely everything we needed including a high chair, cot and safety gate for our baby. The property was secure with fencing and a great backyard for the kids to play in. The owners are very accommodating and even organised a brilliant babysitter for when we had attend a wedding. You really couldn't fault it and we will definitely come back again.

We absolutely loved our time at Mad on the River. The house was spacious, comfortable and immaculate. Our dogs loved swimming each day in the river which runs through the backyard. Cannot recommend it highly enough. Right down to the locally brewed beers kept cold for us on arrival in the fridge! 10/10. Look no further, BOOK THIS PLACE NOW!
