Description

Osprey Heights Accommodation is a wonderful place to stay at the very beautiful Vivonne Bay, an unspoilt fishing village with its history going back to the mid 1800's. The accommodation overlooks the Harriet River and at the bottom of the driveway is a cute timber jetty where you can watch the sunset over a crisp chardonnay or launch a canoe and paddle off to the beach or upstream to tranquil waters with birdlife in abundance. The house is surrounded by coastal vegetation and the reserve at the rear has a meandering path that will lead you to the magnificent Vivonne Bay Beach - voted the Best Beach in Australia in 2003. It hasn't changed, the locals have kept Vivonne Bay to themselves, it's very laid-back and pristine as ever. Central to the core attractions on Kangaroo island, its probably one of the most strategic places to stay on Kangaroo Island.

Wildlife Galore right at your door

The rugged South Coast provides many opportunities to interact with wildlife either on conducted tours or driving and walking on your own. Tamar Wallabies, Long-Nosed Bandicoot, Koalas and Echidnas. the elusive Platypus and New Zealand Fur Seals even the occasional Leapard Seal - watch out they can be mean! Fairy or Little Penguins are as close as the jetty and they make for a great nights viewing, after which you can throw a squid jig off the jetty and land yourself some calamari - salt & pepper style, fresh and delicious. There are lonely beaches that provide myriad shells and remnants of sea creatures, beautiful driftwood as a momento of your travels to this beautiful island. For the more daring there's jet skis, professional fishing charters and scuba diving and heaps more.

Write a novel or paint an art masterpiece.

Osprey Heights and Vivonne Bay has ever changing landscapes so you will never be bored. But, if its solitude you want you can throw away the relaxation CD's and listen to the waves crashing on the shore or walk on beaches where you will be lucky if you meet other people at times. Spot the rare Hooded Plover or the Sooty and Pied Oyster Catcher and from the comfort of the balcony at Osprey Heights, see one of only a few raptors in the area, the beautiful and skilful Osprey that lives on the Harriet River - right on your doorstep. You can walk the coastline till your hearts content and often not see sight of another human, just you and the wilderness. You will need plenty of space on your digital camera, good hiking shoes and a good companion.

Guest Reviews

  • "Very comfortable and well equipped house with glimpses of the river from the deck, and a 3 minute walk to one of the most beautiful beaches we've seen. We had a blissful week of fishing (no one was more surprised than us when we landed a squid!), swimming, surfing, walking and cooking what we caught from the very fishy jetty a short drive away. And when we tired of that, it wasn't too far a drive from other stunning beaches, seal bay and Admiral's Arch. A lovely week."

  • "A very well appointed beach house - one of the better our family has stayed at. It is very clean, nice ambiance and the large deck lends itself to taking in the Vivonne Bay vibe. Highly recommended."

  • "Great house, well appointed and well stocked. Great sitting on the balcony with a red wine!"

  • "Osprey Heights is a really beautiful place to stay. The house and the setting is lovely, and it was extremely clean and very well-appointed. The location is beautiful and the jetty is very special. We couldn't have asked for more and thoroughly enjoyed our time there. I cannot recommend it enough."

  • "We found the situation ideal to travel to other parts of Kangaroo Island. Vivonne Bay is fantastic and if we go back we would just go for the peace, tranquillity and enjoyment of the natural beauty. The house was great and the only improvement would be internet or phone access to make reservations and check weather conditions etc. as the mobile access is non existent."

  • "Had an absolutly brilliant time. We wanted a few days away from it all after a very hard and taxing six months. Osprey Heights made our dreams come true. Only one thing missing, somewhere to clean all the fish we caught at Vivonne Bay."

  • "Very clean, tidy and well set up house with everything you would need for a holiday. The views over the estuary were beautiful especially at sunset. The jetty across the dirt road was a bonus especially around "happy hour". The kids enjoyed catching the small fish and throwing them back into the river."

  • "We had a great stay. Beautiful house, great views, good kitchen and fantastic deck with BBQ and views. Was also really close to the beach and some of the parks on the SW coast. Was remoteish but we liked that too."

  • "We had a wonderful time at Vivonne Bay and Osprey Heights!! It was the perfect location for a romantic getaway for two. We surfed, fished, toured the nearby parks and just enjoyed life to the max. Dinner plans were easy; what fish did we catch that day? The beach was totally ours and the accomodation at Osprey Heights was fantastic. It was great, please keep it undeveloped and pristine :)"
