The house is one of a handful only of absolute beachfront sites on Fraser Island. It has three bedrooms, a lounge room / dining room, kitchen, toilet and bathroom with full-length verandah facing the ocean and gas BBQ facilities on the deck.
The house is modern, comfortable and well appointed. There is self-generated 240v power from solar panels/wind generator/ batteries and two backup diesel generators. The wind generator is a new whisper generator and produces minimal noise. Water is pumped to storage tanks on the hill. Fraser Island water is amongst the worlds purest but there is an elevated mineral content and some people may prefer to drink the onsite tank water or bring their own.
Despite the over production of power and backup systems, please do not bring any electrical appliances as these will rapidly deplete the solar battery stores. Medical devices and phone chargers are acceptable.
The house has one queen bed, and two double bed bunks (ie double bed on bottom and single on top) in three separate bedrooms. There are pillows, doonas and mattress protectors provided, but you need to bring your own linen, including pillow cases. There is a twin tub washing machine available upon request.
There is a large fridge/freezer (and a tucker box freezer available upon request). There is a gas oven, hot plates and grill. The grill doubles as a toaster. The house is equipped with furniture and kitchen equipment. There is a table setting for eight with stainless steel cutlery, pots, pans, baking dishes as well as casserole dishes, gas kettle, mixing bowls, glasses, cups and saucers, wine glasses and a good array of cooking utilities. We also cater for children with 4 sets of plastic plates, bowls and cups. The house has a modern bathroom with a gas hotwater system and a separate toilet.
There is a TV, DVD, video and stereo. The TV reception is a satellite connection and decodes reception from channels Australia wide. Although watching television may conflict with the ideals of a getaway holiday, it is one of only a couple of TV receptions on the island and at times have found it useful.
There is reasonable mobile phone coverage. The power allows for phone chargers to be used. Alternatively, you can buy a Telecard (from your post office) before you come, which will allow you to use the caretakers\' phone in the house to make calls that will be billed to you. Emergency contact is available through the caretakers phone.
The fishing cottage sleeps 11 in a partitioned sleepout arrangement. There are two double beds, one set of double bunks and 5 single beds. All beds are in good condition, half being new. Pillows and bed spreads are the only linen supplied. There is a gas hot water shower (within a newly renovated bathroom), 2 x electric fridge/freezers, tucker box freezer (available on request), twin tub washing machine (available on request), outside gas BBQ and paved, shaded entertainment area. There is a gas cooker, fresh rain water and plentiful cooking utensils with settings for 11.
PLEASE NOTE THAT THE CALENDAR DOES NOT SHOW COTTAGE BOOKINGS. PLEASE CONTACT US FOR COTTAGE AVAILABILITY.
Common to both places is the separate fish cleaning facility and the best bench seats view on Fraser Island.
The caretakers live onsite permanently and are there to ensure you have a smooth holiday. They are lovely people available at your request.
We are ideally situated half way between Eurong resort (8 km south) and Happy Valley resort (7km north). These are the two main resort, restaurant, grocery, post office, facility areas on the east side of the Island. The Ranger and Police stations are also located 6 km to the south of us.
The house is designed for maximum viewing of the water. From the main bedroom we have watched the annual migration of Humpback whales without getting out of bed! It is certainly very relaxing to eat breakfast watching the surf or to relax with an evening drink around the BBQ outdoor setting. At your front doorstep is one of the favourite fishing locations on the island. The fishing cottage hosts generations of fishing families who have been holidaying annually at the cottage for 15-20 years. Our booking manager is an ex Fraser Island fishing writer for QLD fishing monthly. He is more than happy to help with suggestions and appreciates your comments in return.
