Step back in time - A true retro beach house

Kath's View was one of the first beach houses to be built in Wye River in the 1950's and has been slowly and lovingly being bought back to its original 1950's condition.

Located in one of Wye's best spots, there are no houses directly in front to spoil the ocean view, the house enjoys all day sun and is less than a minute's walk to the beach, pub and store.

A stay at Kath's View is truely unique experience. The interiors have been fitted with original 50's & 60's furnishings and appliances, and from the moment you walk in, its like taking a trip back in time to the golden days of 1950's Aussie beach culture.

The top floor consists of a large open area with original 1950's kitchen, two open fires, the one in the loungeroom an original 1960's Visor cone fireplace, split system air conditioning/heating, a large dining room, lounge room and open plan bedroom to one end.

Modern conveniences have not been forgotten - the house has a large plasma TV & DVD player, ipod/iphone music dock and portable stereo. In the retro kitchen, Kath's View is equipped with all you need to cook up a storm. Original 1950's appliances include a Kelvinator Magic Cycle fridge and 1953 New World gas stove. The stunning ocean and bush views from the diningroom table make Kath's the perfect place for a dinner party.

Typical 50's beach house design, the property has 3 distinctly separate sleeping areas allowing for plenty of privacy and making Kath's View perfect for adult groups.

The main house sleeps 2 in an open plan bedroom with stunning views from your bed or in winter watch the fire from the comfort of your bed.

Downstairs the Peacock bedroom sleeps 2, and has beautiful bush views from its window. Separate to the main house and on the left as you walk down the garden path is the bungalow which houses a third bedroom accommodating up to 2 additional guests.

The bathroom located downstairs has been completely renovated and returned to the 1950's.

A large deck leads off the top floor where you can watch the waves roll in.

The house has everything you need to laze around including 2 sets of outdoor dining tables and chairs, one retro for sitting with a glass of your favourite drop and a larger one for enjoying a BBQ lunch while soak up the sun and stunning ocean view.

Kath's View has the best of both world's,the bush and the ocean as the house is set on large grounds covered with some of Wye River's tallest gumtrees. The wildlife includes a myriad of native neighbours such as parrots, rosellas, currawongs and even a resident male koala if you look hard enough.

Wake up to the sounds of the crashing waves and Kookaburras on the deck. A stay at Kath's View is not for everyone. Please only book if you have a love of all things retro or wish to experience a unique beachhouse stay.

Located in Old Wye - The Quintessential Retro Beach House

Kath's View is located in a peaceful and private nook of Wye River and less than a 1 minute walk down the hill to the General Store, Pub and Wye beach.

The house is in the original old part of Wye River looking straight down to Wye's main beach. Most importantly, Kath's View enjoys all day sun and protection from the winds and backs onto native bush so there are no houses in front to block your ocean view.

  • "6 couples just spent the weekend at Kath's View and we loved it. Very well fitted out from the beautiful old fridge and stove and all the 1950's touches. The views are gorgeous. We spent most of the weekend on the deck and we did spot the koala. This house is perfect if you are after a group stay. Great beachhouse wish it was mine. "

  • "For a group of middle aged old uni friends coming together for a reunion Kaths View was an absolute find. Apart from the house and view being fantastic - the layout of the sleeping areas was perfect as we felt we all werent in each other pockets. I stayed in the Bungalow which is completely separate from the main house. With carpet throughout and with windows along one side that let in lots of light its more like your own private flat. I could see my teenage kids loving sleeping here during summer holidays. We wanted something special for our reunion and Kaths View delivered in spades. I cant wait to come back with the family in summer and laze around on the deck."

  • "We only stayed two nights on our way down the Great Ocean Road. The view from the deck is stunning straight down to Wye beach. Our overseas guests loved the experience of staying in an original Aussie beach house and were thrilled to see a koala up close in one of the gumtrees on the property."

  • "Thank you for a most relaxing stay unfortunately a long weekend was not enough. I found it hard to drag myself away from the deck and that view! We had a beautiful BBQ seafood lunch on the deck whilst watching the surfers catch their waves. Bliss. Loved the 1950s beach house feel. A unique and romantic place. We will definitely we back."
