Step back in time - Retro beach house
Kath's View was one of the first beach houses to be built in Wye River in the 1950's. Located in one of Wye's best spots, there are no houses directly in front to spoil the ocean & bush views.
A stay at Kath's View is a unique experience.
The interiors have been fitted with original 50's & 60's furnishings and appliances, and from the moment you walk in its like taking a trip back in time to the golden days of 1950's beach culture.
The top floor of the Main House consists of a large open plan area with the original 1950's kitchen, including a 1950's Kelvinator Magic Cycle Fridge and New World Gas Stove, two open fireplaces, a 1960's Visor cone fireplace in the loungeroom and an open fire in the diningroom as well as split system airconditioning & heating. The large deck leads off this area where you can lounge all day and enjoy the ocean view.
Modern conveniences have not been forgotten and the house has:
* 50 inch flat screen LCD TV & DVD player, ipod/iphone dock, CD player, portable stereo.
* The retro kitchen is equipped with all you need to cook up a storm
* Lots of platters, crockery, wine glasses and serving trays for entertaining
* Diningroom table with its ocean & bush views makes a great spot for a dinner party
* Everything needed to lounge around on the deck, sun lounges, outdoor table & chairs
* BBQ on the deck to enjoy lunch whilst soaking up the sun and ocean view.
Typical 50's beach house design, the property has 3 separate sleeping areas allowing for plenty of privacy and making Kath's View perfect for adult groups or even more cosy for just two.
The main house sleeps 2 in an open plan bedroom with beautiful views from your bed. In winter watch the fire from the comfort of your bed. Turn the 50 inch flat screen around to enjoy the luxury of both fire/bush views while watching a film in bed. A supply of DVDs are available in the TV cabinet, a bookshelf of magazines & novels are at your disposal, as is Uno and Monopoly.
Downstairs the Peacock Bedroom sleeps 2 and has beautiful bush views from your bed.
Separate to the main house and on the left as you walk down the garden path is the bungalow which houses a third bedroom accommodating 3 additional guests, one double and one single. This separate stand alone building has recently undergone a complete renovation.
Painted flamingo pink and in keeping with the house's retro feel, the Port-hole Bungalow is a private space. Two huge picture windows let in lots of natural light with views over the rockery garden.
Both the Peacock Bedroom and the Port-hole have evaporative coolers and heaters.
The bathroom located downstairs has been completely renovated and returned to the 1950's.
Kath's View has the best of both world's bush and ocean, and the house is set on large grounds covered with some of Wye River's tallest gumtrees. The wildlife includes a myriad of native neighbours such as parrots, rosellas, currawongs and even a resident male koala if you look hard enough.
Wake up to the sounds of the crashing waves and Kookaburras on the deck. A stay at Kath's View is not for everyone, please only book the house if you have a love of all things retro or wish to experience a unique beachhouse stay.
Located in Old Wye - The Quintessential Retro Beach House
Kath's View is located in a peaceful and private nook of Wye River and less than a 1 minute walk down the hill to the General Store, Pub and Wye beach.
The house is in the original old part of Wye and looks straight down to Wye's main beach. Most importantly, Kath's View enjoys all day sun and protection from the winds and backs onto native bush so there are no houses in front to block your ocean view.
Not all properties in Wye River allow guests to enjoy plenty of sun on the deck and protection from the wind off the ocean. When choosing accommodation in Wye these are two important things to consider.
SECURITY BOND
Many furnishings and appliances at Kath's View are original 1950's and 1960's and impossible to replace if damaged or broken. Due to the nature of the property we request guests lodge a $1000 security deposit. We understand that this is a significant deposit and as such is promptly refunded after vacating.
