Obi Eco is an architect designed (by award-winning architect, Gabriel Poole) sustainable house set in a Land for Wildlife sanctuary. As well as cows, there are platypus, dingos, echidna and abundant bird life on the property.
The house stands on 30 acres overlooking a spectacular valley with basalt cliffs and the Obi Obi Ceek (which provides the water supply for Maroochydore). It\'s a short walk down to a private picnic area along the creek.
Living in the house, you have total privacy: undisturbed by any other people or houses. Our guests have enjoyed birthdays, anniversaries and even their honeymoon in this special place.
This luxurious energy-efficient self-contained house is suitable for one to four adults. It is not suitable for children.
One guest exclaimed as they walked through the door: \"Not a doily or a hills hoist in sight!\"
In the living area, there are sliding doors opening onto the veranda where you have magic views overlooking your own private part of the Obi Obi Creek.
The state-of-the-art kitchen has a gas stove and electric oven, microwave and dishwasher. There is a full size, new bbq on the deck. In the laundry, you have a Bosch washing machine and a clothes dryer. The living area has surround sound DVD player with flat-screen TV. Enjoy access to our small book and DVD libraries.
In the cooler winter months, the mornings can be misty and the evenings chilly enough for a fire. At Obi Eco, in these winter months, you can sit snug and warm by the easy-to-use wood burning stove.
During the warm summer months, enjoy the ambient breeze that flows through the house with fans in the living area and in one bedroom and air-conditioning in the other. To complete the experience, cool off under your own outdoor cold shower!
The bedrooms are identical in size - one has a queen and the other a double bed. The bathroom has a 2-person shower and bath with views! There is a separate toilet
Obi Eco was featured in the 2006 winter edition of Coast magazine (ultimate tourist guide to the Sunshine Coast): \"Named after the picturesque Obi Obi Creek that flows past below it, Obi Eco is set in a Land for Wildlife sanctuary on 30 lush acres in Maleny. It is the dream-come-true of owners Susanne Haydon and Rick Gould, who wanted to build a house their guests would treat as their own home in the country. They commissioned their idea to local award-winning architect Gabriel Poole and the result is an intimate, fully sustainable home and a firm favourite with people who love nothing more that to disappear in the palm of nature\'s gifts. The two bedroom house with wrap-around verandas has everything you need not to leave for days: a wood burning stove, small library, broadband internet and all the gadgets to cook up a storm. You will experience magical views from every nook and cranny including the bathroom and outside you have your own secluded picnic spot next to the Obi Obi from where you can watch frolicking platypus. Isolated enough for you to only nod at passing cows and echidnas, it\'s also close to all other creature comforts with Maleny and its galleries and eateries three minutes away.\"
Obi Eco is situated in \'exclusive\' North Maleny just 3 minutes drive from town and:
- 30 minutes from Woodford (where the folk festival is held annually between Boxing Day and New Year)
- 30 minutes from Caloundra and Maroochydore beaches
- 40 minutes from the famous Eumundi markets and Coolum
- 50 minutes from Noosa
- 1.5 hours north of Brisbane (a little less from Brisbane airport).
Our visitors can fly into either Brisbane or Sunshine Coast (Maroochydore) airports.
Maleny is a vibrant community with great restaurants and coffee shops. There\'s plenty to do in the Sunshine Coast Hinterland from visiting wineries and galleries to enjoying local festivals.
