Why Nanook
Nanook was a lovely black Newfoundland dog which lived in Thredbo Village during the sixties and seventies.
He was a gentle giant who in winter, would pull the children along in a sleigh. Nanook would know when to stop and when to start as he was only happy while everyone else was looked after and were having a good time.

JUNE
8 - 10 - Opening Weekend Celebration
Kick off season 2013 in true alpine style with a weekend packed with a mountain of good times. Enjoy a the opening ceremony, The region's largest fireworks display, party in the village square, enjoy the long Lunch, check out what's hot this winter at the fashion parade, and check out the new poolside apres bar...and of course, be the first to set tracks at Australia's favourite mountain.
17 - 21 - Thredbo Learn to Ride Week
If you are keen to learn to ski and board, then head to Thredbo for the new Learn to Ride Weeks. This is the ideal way to get you up and going on the snow. Your package includes a daily two hour group lesson, a lift pass that gets you onto Friday Flat on day one and from day two you have access to the whole mountain plus your ski or snowboard and boot rental. All at the same price as the peak season lift only pass. So for a 5 day lift, lesson and rental package you pay $494 for adults and $276 for kids.
29 - 30 The Skimag Demo Days
Test drive the top of the line new seasons skis and snowboards in Thredbo. The slopeside set up at the base of the Kosciuszko Express makes it easy to try plenty of new gear.
JULY
1 - 12 - School Holiday Carnival
Join in on the apres fun on Friday Flat with the Thredbo July School Holiday Carnival, every Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday night from 4.30 - 7.30pm. Boost your adrenalin on the new Thredbo snow tubes, test your skill on the snow bikes, build the best snowman or enjoy the antics of the Thredboland animals.
9 - Redlands Cup
This event brings together competitors from schools across Australia to race in this ski and snowboard event. Children from kindergarten through to year 12 get to sharpen their skills and get ready for the upcoming State and National Interschool events.
10 - 13 - Sydney Interschool's
Now in its 26th year the Interschool competition brings together school age children to compete in alpine, freestyle, snowboard and cross country disciplines.
13 Rip Curl ThrownDown
The park crew create a unique one night only jump for the best skiers and boarders in the country to launch, slide, jib and fly. The format is loose, it's a jam format and peer judged, the action is free flowing with some of the finest tricks of the season pulled out on this night time, crowd favourite.
20 - 21 TSRC cup
14 - 21 - Uni Week in Thredbo
Uni is out and now it's time to head to slopes south and enjoy big get together. Let's call it more a "Snow-cial" as this week includes a fun mix of things to do both on and off the slopes.
29 - August 4 - Clicquot in the Snow
Now in its fourth year in Thredbo, the village will turn "Clicquot yellow" and feature Apres Sessions at the Thredbo Alpine Hotel, a snow picnic, brunch, late night parties, degustation dinners and a special Clicquot Snow Croquet competition. DJs, fine food, great company, snow fun and exquisite bubbles is Clicquot in the Snow - Thredbo.
AUGUST
3 - Lawyers Race
This race attracts close to 200 lawyers, both skiers and snowboarders, to the starting gate. The weekend culminates with a gala dinner in the Kosciuszko Room at the Thredbo Alpine Hotel.
4 - Rossignol Ladies Day
Ski, socialise and champers. Rossignol are hosting a day out on the ski's for the ladies. You can test the latest range of Rossignol Skis with instruction from Thredbo's acclaimed ski instructors and enjoy an indulgent lunch with Veuve Clicquot to toast the special day. It's a great way for ladies to enjoy the ski lifestyle in a friendly and comfortable environment.
10 - Top to Bottom
Thredbo's annual Top To Bottom race is Australia's longest downhill race and one of the country's most iconic snow events. In a Le Mans start at the top of the Kosciuszko Express as the sun rises, racers run to the start line jump onto their ski's and boards and head down the mountain negotiating gates, turns and straights. There are five categories contested with cash and prizes up for grabs.
10 - Senior Interclub Races
This event is hotly contested, one that has been part of Thredbo rich village history. Club lodges battle it out on the racecourse to see who can lay claim to ultimate racing club lodge of 2013
12 - 15 - National Alpine Championships
Giant Slalom racing down the Thredbo World Cup course. FIS Competitors from all over the world will be in Thredbo for this exciting event.
17 - Thredbo Masters
There's nothing faster than a Thredbo Master. A long held\Thredbo tradition, this is a ski race for over 30s. Masters racers from around the country line-up in this giant slalom event, held on the famous World Cup course. Then join the night time party and presentation with fellow racers. There are great prizes to be won as well as the prestige of being crowned the Thredbo Master.
25 - 29 - 2013 Australian University Championships
Over 350 snow goers will head to Thredbo to compete in alpine, freestyle, snowboard and cross country events. There might be a little fun too with themed parties planned throughout the week. See Pages/Home.aspx for more details on this event.
