Newnes was a former mining town and the only remaining building of the historic township is the Newnes Hotel (1907). The hotel no longer operates but a kiosk is open in the bar on weekends. Our long term aim is to restore the old hotel to its former glory but in the meantime we are building a number of cabins so that visitors can stay in comfort in these spectacular surroundings. Our third cabin is now ready and we invite you to stay and explore this beautiful area.
Surrounded by absolute wilderness, canyons and spectacular sandstone cliffs, we are at the heart of Wollemi National Park.
This ia a truly special place, where nature meets history.
We operate three cabins, Wolgan, Capertee and Colo.
Wolgan invites a maximum of six guests to stay in great comfort in this remote location. There is one bedroom with a queen size bed, and 4 single beds in the large living area, a fabulous bathroom and a fully equipped kitchen. Wolgan is designed for disabled person access.
Capeertee is a cosy hideaway designed to accomodate 4 people and is ideal for couples. This compact cabin has a real mountain Australian feel but with all the comforts of home. One queen size bed and two single beds, fully equipped kitchen, a beautiful bathroom, great verandah.
The Colo is similar to the Capertee but it has an added tower with a study at floor level and a spectacular, starry bunk bed.
We have outdoors barbeque facilities and fireplaces. Please bring your own linen and all food and drink.
The activities offered at Newnes are:
Explore the ruins of the former township,
Climb Mystery Mountain or the many other rockfaces,
Abseil down one of three popular canyons in the area,
Enjoy the Wolgan River,
Go bushwalking just outside the cabin or walk 7 days to the Putty Road,
Switch off amidst a vast, unspoilt, natural environment
