We needed somewhere to stay for our son's wedding in the Southern Highlands and Lavinia's little cottage was perfect.

We knew this place was going to be great from the photos and the website but when you arrive it does not do it justice. I celebrated my 50th with family and friends and we had non stop fun for four days and Mandy is the best host and super helpful.

After seven years of annual family getaways, Kalinya Gardens is right up there at the top of the list. One of the things we look for is for all of us to be accommodated under one roof rather than needing to spread out across multiple cottages. The Homestead which holds a maximum of 18 was perfect for our group. The property caters for people of all ages. The Homestead is beautifully appointed: decor and furnishings are elegant and tasteful; the beds are super comfortable, and so are the pillows. There are several lovely bathrooms, and some comfy sitting areas, and more TV's than I could count. I don't actually think we turned one on until late on the final evening. We were too busy enjoying each other's company. Mandy, the owner has thought of everything. The grounds, the facilities, gardens, decks, outdoor tables and entertaining areas were just perfect. This year, my husband was celebrating his 80th Birthday. Mandy put us in touch with caterers and providores - all of whom were exceptional. On the day of the celebration, Mandy was there help us with extra tables and chairs so we could set up in the winter sun on the sheltered verandah which runs all the way around the house. What more can I say - "just gorgeous, in every possible way."

We all enjoyed the animals especially Barbara the sheep. The hot tub was delightful. Wandering in the acreage in the bushland just perfect.

If you are looking for a high end contemporary get away this isn’t for you. If you’re looking for an enormous house where your families can have enough space to be comfortably together and relax without being precious, it’s perfect!! We had 20 adults and 15 kids (3-15) and we had the funnest weekend. The kids love the house and all the extras it comes with. Karaoke, movie room, ping pong and the best hide and seek venue they’ve ever had. Plus, a great party room. The house is a lot more expansive than the photos show, so in all the business and noise of big groups there is still enough space to find quiet spots and for adults to hang out without being interrupted by the kids who are too busy having fun to need mum or dads attention. For the cost and proximity to Sydney I think you’ll be hard pushed to find better value for money. You need to know- the road in is long and heavily potholed and has steep sections. In dry weather we had 2wds make it, but low suspension is no go and 4wd recommended. Also the kitchen is workable with air fryers, stove top and small worktop ovens but the big ovens do not work. We brought our own burners and cooked paella out side and organised BBQs. The house is well lived in and shabby round the edges but that for us meant we didn’t feel on edge telling the kids to be extra careful every 5 mins. Everyone loved the house and location. We will very likely be back.
