About this property
Casa Mairal for 10 people
Casa Mairal has always been known for its hospitality. Our ancestors, owners of that great Don, did not hesitate to open their doors to everyone.
Thus, this house was the place chosen to perform the musicians during the Festival. On the balcony of the upper floor, today "Lilac Room", which was formerly known as "La Sala", the musicians were placed and played the pasodobles, while the whole town danced in the plaza.
Another of its dependencies, today "Laundry", used to be the "Cuarto Oscuro", the ideal place to store hams and pieces of pork for its cure. We do not know why, but the properties that this room had were unique and all the neighbors brought them here until they were available to eat.
It goes without saying that the kitchen, the huge fireplace has been a meeting place for shepherds who came here to warm up and make their garlic toast, while sharpening their knives in the stones of the hearth. Today you can check the marks left. Or when there was a storm and the neighbors came to place the Christ in the window to get rid of all evil.
If the walls spoke, how many stories would they tell us about Casa Mairal!
We know that it is one of the oldest houses in the village, and that by 1700 it was much larger, covering a large part of the block. It was a house of good class for those years.
We must highlight curious things, for example, when a son or daughter got married, as "dowry" was given a room in the house, and so the house was split into many pieces. If you look at the facade you will see that there is a window in the lower right part of the door that is different from the rest. This is because it is from a room that was given in the last dowry and belongs to the house next door, property of other neighbors, like the back, painted green.
But not everything was easy in the lives of our ancestors. Unfortunately during the Civil War four of his men died, and it was partly sacked and destroyed, and my grandparents had to emigrate to Catalonia. At the end of the war they returned, but everything was very difficult and the time to go hungry and work hard came, until in 1994 they died with just 15 days apart, with 91 and 94 years, and after a lifetime together.
Today we are proud that our grandparents Luis and María left us this house as a legacy, and we thought that it was the best tribute we could have for them: to restore it and open it for everyone, and you too, so that you can enjoy our hospitality, the same as they gave in their day. It has cost us a lot of effort and work to restore it, thinking of the thousand details that we know you may like. And of course ..., to make you feel at home.
