A charming barn in rural hamlet near Sigournais, 30 minutes from Puy du Fou.
A converted 17th century barn in a rural, medieval hamlet. Originally built before the Vendee wars and bears the scars of being burned by troops of the revolution in the 18th century, evidence of this can be seen on the stones of the walls where the colour turns from a creamy yellow to a rose hue. It has been lovingly restored to preserve its character and history and offers all modern comforts and accommodation for up to 6 guests. It is spacious with lots of natural light and is furnished to the highest standard for 6 guests. A perfect base for exploring the Vendee and its history especially the Puy du fou - or simply relax and enjoy rural France and its Atlantic coastline.

Lovely stay in very well equipped-property in beautiful setting
Myself, my partner and our 2 and a half year old daughter spent a really lovely week in this barn conversion.
The property is extremely well-equipped and was very clean and we had everything we needed for the week and more. There was a stair gate for us to put upstairs on the mezzanine where our daughter was sleeping and Vanessa arranged for us to have some other baby/toddler items as well. It was lovely to sit in the garden and eat and we used the BBQ and our daughter enjoyed running around and playing outside.
We also made use of the wifi to do last minute research on the places we wanted to visit.
The barn is in a very tranquil village. Its surroundings are really beautiful and we were within a comfortable reach of lots of different paces of interest both inland and on the coast for day trips.
We would definitely recommend and hope to return in the future.

peace and quiet in a beautiful cosy French cottage
The Barn is a beautiful cosy French cottage with all the luxuries you need for a relaxed vacation. The Barn is situated in rural France in a quiet but pretty village called Sigournais.
The owner, a British lady, is very friendly and thoughtful.
For urban pleasures such as shopping, broad choice of restaurants and activities for children you shouldn't come to Sigournais. For relaxing and experiencing the real French rural life though, you couldn't make a better choice than renting The Barn!
The house is perfect for couples and small families. For bigger families you can rent the other property of the owner which is situated in the same homestead as The Barn.
Thanks for a lovely vacation!

Charming Chantonnay
We spent two weeks in this accommodation in Chantonnay in August 2011. Barn has all the mod cons and in great condition. Nice private back garden where we could sit out and bbq in the evenings. Local village nice and lake nearby was very convenient if you did not want to do a big trip on a particular day. Vanessa was very helpful and we would have no hesitation in recommending it as a great base to relax and also explore the region.

France holiday May - June 2011.
My husband and I stayed at The Barn in late May early June 2011 or one week. We had been in France for almost five weeks and this was the most relaxing and enjoyable of our time there. Our hosts had made our stay very comfortable and the surroundings were absolutely beautiful. The property was exceptional clean and well maintained. It had everything we required including a variety of books, internet, music, TV. Beautiful herbs outside for use when cooking gave it an extra homey feel. The owner went out of her way to assist with any queries and indeed, went the extra mile in providing customer service. Beautiful waks in the countryside with very friendly though not intrusive neighbours. We would highly commend The Barn to any prospective holiday makers.

Great area for cycling
Nice converted barn, well maintained, clean and well organised. friendly owner who was very responsive to our needs. Good restaurant nearby, although wasn't open most evenings out of peak season.
We took our bikes with us and enjoyed cycling along the very many nearly empty roads. There are also lots of footpaths (sentiers) nearby which were great to explore ono foot. And not too far to drive to the coast. Overall a good experience.

Brilliant holiday in the Barn!
We enjoyed a wonderful relaxing week in the Barn, which was superbly furnished and felt like home from home. Its location in a quiet hamlet in beautiful rural France made for lots of lovely walks. In the evenings we enjoyed relaxing on the patio. admiring the view. The local residents were very friendly, and a visit to the local ChĂąteau (which you can see from the Barn) is a must. The local restaurant food was also superb and the owners very welcoming.
There were lots of places within each reach, La Rochelle was just over an hour away and well worth a visit as was Puy Du Fu (20minutes away). We had a wonderful week and hope to return soon.

Excellent Gite
Two others and my self hired out this gite only for a short five day break and as soon as we arrived we loved the property. It was well renovated, feeling new but still in keeping with its surrounds. It had all the mod cons and everything you need in the kitchen if you wish to dine in. Two toilets, a shower and two bedrooms was just perfect for us that we did not feel on top of each other. It was well located if you wanted to get out and about but we lazed about in the garden patio in the sun most days.
Summing up a lovely choice.

Getting away from it all
A beautiful little property with everything we needed for a relaxing break - nice local restaurants, interesting area (if that's your thing) and a great place to relax.

My wife and I have just spent a most enjoyable week and a half in the barn and we are both pleased to agree with all the positive comments in the previous reviews.
In addition, the owner always seemed willing to "go the extra yard" to ensure our stay was hassle free and comfortable.
The barn comfortably accommodates 4 people, 2 in the main double-bedded bedroom and another 2 in twin beds on a mezzanine. (I would guess that it must be a bit cozy with 6 people sharing.) It is very well equipped all round - my wife is a keen cook and found everything that she needed.
The owners operate a very practical regime, whereby all breakages can be replaced directly from the local supermarket in Chantonnay, so there was no problem replacing a couple of broken pieces of crockery. The barn is about an hour's drive to the best beaches or major cities (Nantes, La Rochelle etc.), but the roads are good and the driving is easy. The little hamlet of La Requerre is lovely and quiet (there's virtually no traffic through the village), and the locals all seemed very welcoming to their temporary neighbours. There's a wide variety of local eateries, one within walking distance (the excellent Morliere) but most a short drive away. We are delighted to recommend this property.

Great Hols!
The description is accurate. A very nice holiday house, well equipped with good quality fixtures and fittings and every cook's hearts desire of a holiday-kitchen. Spotlessly clean and a home from home. The owner has gone to a lot of trouble to make sure everything is just so and takes a personal interest in helping to identify best travel arrangements /ferry deals etc. We will certainly go back.
