About this property
Awesome unique home right on the lake with huge yard, hot tub near Sunday river
Welcome to one of the most unique homes in the state of Maine!
Got a smaller group? Talk to us and see if we can come up with a fair price for your group. This only applies in the off season.
Holiday weekends are generally a 3 night stay requirement. Peak Summer we rent Friday to Friday and renters love it because when you arrive you get a whole weekend AND you avoid the awful Saturday Summer traffic.
This unique and historic lakefront home nestled in the foothills of the White mountains is one of very few in the area able to accommodate large groups under one roof. Owned by a real train engineer, the house has lots of railroad nostalgia sure to thrill all. We boast the largest yard on the lake, great for weddings and summer fun. A Hot tub, horseshoe pit, fire pit, a swing set and sandbox for the kids, a boathouse and a store/restaurant right down the street are amenities hard to find elsewhere.
The house faces to the west which means you will be on the sunny side of the lake, lots of sun and great sunsets. Our huge deck and screened porch afford great views. There are 2 living rooms, each has a cable TV. There is a Pool table, foosball, fireplace, giant, fully equipped kitchen/dining room with woodstove, 2 fridges, 3 freezers, 2 ovens and 9 burners. We do have a nice relaxing hot tub. A separate hot tub fee will apply. Pets are welcome, a pet fee will apply.
The owner being a railroad engineer has put his railroad touch to the home inside and out. Your kids will love the theme.
The home affords large groups to spread out or congregate in our massive main living room.
Other information: Be sure to read our online guestbook comments.
Be sure to check out the Bethel, Maine website to see the list of year-round events. From the famous wife carrying contest to the chowder festival and Mollyocket day, there is always something fun for all ages going on in the area.
We are just 40 minutes from the Oxford casino!
Golf: Nearby is the Bethel inn and country club and the new Sunday river golf course. There are a number of other golf courses in the area.homes in all of Maine!

Why they chose this property
OF course, the lake was the # 1 alluring factor when we purchased the home but the capability the house has is immense. Imagine if you will my band playing in front of the fireplace in the huge living room while our friends are dancing, playing pool and carrying on. Meanwhile, with the french doors at the far end of the kitchen closed to the bedroom side of the house, all our kids are all fast asleep, undisturbed by the music!
Another example.. We had a skit night and the living room became the stage and everyone sat in the dining/kitchen area to watch the kids perform as well as some pretty bizarre adult skits.
Another fun thing we can do is a 'Team paddle' across the lake and hike Mount Christopher to the summit (an easy hike) and catch the great views of the area.
At night, the fire pit is the #1 draw, easy access from the front door.
We love the region and have made some great friendships there. Our caretaker, cleaners, carpenters, plumber, electrician are second to none and do great work keeping the house chugging along.

What makes this property unique
The location is wonderful facing the lake, watching the awesome sunsets, hearing the loons.
Between the set up of the house, the large yard, and the huge dock, it is very easy for large groups to spread out and never feel crowded. Picture your group... Kids swimming, some adults playing a game of croquet, teenagers paddling around in the canoes, grandparents sitting in the screened porch watching the fun, Dad cooking burgers and dogs on the grille, more kids on the swings, 4 adults playing a competitive game of horseshoes and a few more folks relaxing in the hot tub... Oh, and 'Uncle Ed' taking a nap under the shade of our weeping willow tree.... All going on at the same time. Picture your extended family and you will fully understand how the uniqueness of this home and surroundings has been a true winner for so many families since we purchased this great property in 1998.
