It has a small terraced orchard, a productive potager, a gravel garden and plenty of grass for family games of football. badminton etc. There is a larger than average swimming pool set in a fenced sunken garden complete with pool house. Should you want to escape the heat of the midday sun the orangery/poolhouse is a perfect haven for a siesta, for reading or listening to music also set up with a large dining table and a sofabed. There are several other outside eating areas. You can choose amongst them whether to lounge by the pool( several loungers available) with a cool drink or to sit in the shade of the trees and enjoy a barbecue (tables and chairs for 16), or to watch the sun go down in the comfort of a vintage rattan chair or swinging sofa.
Cool inside, the house is welcoming and comfortable. There is an old fashioned, well loved feeling about this family house. All the rooms are large and airy. The bedrooms are furnished with a mixture of french and English antiques and textiles. On the ground floor there is a sitting room with an enormous selection of DVDs, board games and books, a formal dining room, an outsise country kitchen - the delight of many a visiting cook, the back kitchen/buanderie/utility room of your dreams and an indispensable cool larder. The ground floor also has an enormous bedroom with en suite bathroom deliberately designed to facilitate and include guests with mobility issues.
The property lies in a 5 acre or 3 and half hectare fenced garden which is set amongst a rolling landscape of sunflowers, vineyards and plum orchards. Les Vités itself is a stone built manor house dating from 1860. The house ticks, all the boxes of idyllic French country life and is within easy reach of both Bordeaux and Bergerac airports. The local market towns of Duras and Monségur with its popular jazz Festival are full of bars and busy restaurants. There are a daily farmers markets in different villages as well as the unmissable night markets.
Les Vites is an ideal base from which to visit the vineyards of Bordeaux, St Emilion and the Sauternes. On the bucket list of any winelover. There are plenty of videgreniers and brocantes throughout the summer to satisfy the veteran treasure hunter as well as enough historical monuments to satisfy the most demanding culture vulture. However our guests have often found it difficult to escape the sleepy embrace of holiday bien-être that lies in Les Vités.
