Uninhabitable and unhealthy
We arrived on March 25th 2023 for a week long stay. On arrival we immediately noticed a damp musty smell masked with pungent floral air freshener. On closer inspection of all the rooms, there were huge areas of black mould on the walls, the blinds and even on the towel rails. The walls were blistered with mould.
This meant our party of 6 couldn't safely stay there. However we had no choice but to stay one night while we found an alternative place. In that short time we developed respiratory issues. In addition to the black mould the property was poorly maintained. For example the gas range only partially worked, the kettle switch was broken and had to be supervised and manually turned off. The heating system was lacking as the house has an big area of windows and the heaters were not enough. On top of that the heat went off in the middle of the night and by the time we left in the morning the heaters were still off. We don't know what happen to it as there was no apparent control for it. We lit the fire to try to take away the damp and stench. The wood provided for the fire lasted 3 hours and after that we had to supply our own wood. We were freezing and the house just stunk.
Plates and cutlery, even though probably washed in dishwasher, had food stuck to them and everything had to be washed before using. The toilet seat in the en-suite bathroom was not secure.
In addition as soon as we got there ATVs appeared around the area and a digger was working constantly on the river beach moving stones. The property was not in a peaceful location.
During all this time we tried to call the number provided and nobody answered. We emailed through the VRBO app telling the host we were leaving and there has been no, absolutely no response, the host has disappeared. It's been 9 days so far.
We rented a house for a family get together and found ourselves unwell and in a nightmare. We were left without any help from VRBO, or the host. This property is definitely not as described and the photos on VRBO website are absolutely NOT accurate as VRBO assures on website.
