About this property
Historic Marigny neighborhood, New Orleans, next to the French Quarter
My place is close to the most lively music scene in the city, just a block away on Frenchmen Street, and 3 blocks from the heartbeat of the city, the French Quarter. You'll experience all the excitement downtown New Orleans has to offer, and come back to a peaceful and restful environment when you've had your fill of music, food, and drink. My place is good for families and groups, and since you'll have the whole space, you won't be disturbing anyone if your group is up late.
The guesthouse is on the second floor, while the first floor is our lovely little Thai restaurant, SukhoThai, which closes at 10pm. We have 5 bedrooms, with 5 high quality queen beds, and one queen sofa bed. The sofa bed is in the kitchen / dining room for occasional use as an overflow.
Guests will have a separate entrance from the business, available to use any time of day or night, and will need to access the rooms by stairs, so unfortunately we do not have an accessible entrance for wheelchairs. Entry is by keypad and a key is also available. The area where the guest rooms are located is along a hallway which is also locked for privacy from the restaurant below. The guests will have most of the second floor for their sole use, though there is a small manager's office upstairs in a space separate from the guest room area.
The bedrooms do not have in-room bathrooms. Just down the hall from the bedrooms are 2 bathrooms. These bathrooms are within the rental unit, and not accessible to anyone but your group. Each is equipped with shower, toilet and lavatory. We provide towels, soap and shampoo for guest use.
The kitchen / living area is on the same hallway, just for the guesthouse, and is equipped with microwave, coffee maker, toaster, refrigerator, dishwasher, dining table and other seating. We do not have a stove for cooking on the premises.
Marigny is an historic neighborhood along the New Orleans riverfront, just downriver from the French Quarter. The Royal Elysian is just a block away from the most lively jazz music scene, Frenchmen Street, where you'll find Three Muses, The Spotted Cat, Snug Harbor, DBA, Blue Nile, and many more. We are also just three blocks from the French Quarter, but far enough to get away from the hustle and bustle.
A few blocks walk to the riverfront will bring you to Crescent Park, with dramatic views of the downtown skyline amid remnants of the old working wharves, and a few blocks walk in the other direction will take you to the new Rampart Streetcar line. Within a three block radius of our Guesthouse, you'll find numerous restaurants and coffee shops with old New Orleans charm. Much to explore and enjoy!
Our Guesthouse is very close and convenient to get around the historic areas of the city. You can rent a bike from A Bicycle Named Desire just across the way and join a tour or explore the beautiful Marigny/Bywater area on your own, or ride 15 minutes down picturesque Esplanade Avenue's bike paths to the oaks and bayous of City Park.
Bus stops in front of our building will take you to Canal Street and the Aquarium of the Americas, or take you to the Lake Pontchartrain and the University of New Orleans lakefront campus. Walk a few blocks to the new Rampart Streetcar Line, where you can ride to the Canal Street shopping district, the Louisiana Superdome, and the Greyhound/Amtrak terminal, or you can connect to the St. Charles Avenue line to tour the stately mansions and universities of the Garden District/Uptown. You can also walk six or so blocks to the Riverfront streetcar line which reaches Harrah's casino, the Riverwalk Outlet Mall, and the Convention Center.
We have only street parking, but it is not so difficult to find a place to park, usually right in front of our building.

We greatly enjoyed our stay. Big rooms, comfy beds, great hosts. Good location near Frenchman street and walkable to Bourbon St. The Thai restaurant downstairs was good too!
This property is close to Frenchman St and walking distance to bourbon. It was great value for money and had the right number of bedrooms for my group.
Our group of all adults had a great time and couldn’t have asked for a better location and value. We walked almost everywhere we went and the place suited us perfectly.
If I could give this property 6 out of 5 stars I would. Perfect location to enjoy the French quarter while also being quiet enough at night for good sleep. Comfortable beds, great common area and excellent communication from the host. We loved this place and hope to come back soon!
This place was perfect for our group. Five bedrooms for all of us to enjoy the city. Hosts were helpful and responsive, with quick replies with answers to any questions we had. The bedrooms were very quiet to noises outside and to any activity we had going on in other rooms. Convenient to the French Quarter.
Fantastic property, great space and really friendly people. We had the best time.
The apartment is spacious, clean and the location is amazing. We walked everywhere from there. The staff in the restaurant downstairs are so friendly and the host very responsive.
Special shout out to Maria, the bartender in the restaurant, who set on our evenings out with a few drinks and smiles and chats.
The property was amazing and communication with the host was always easy and prompt. We had a great stay but I would recommend being cautious when parking on the street. The area isn’t the safest but you do have bourbon st and the french market both within walking distance. So if you don’t mind the tradeoff there, it’s perfect. The restaurant downstairs is also super convenient, the food is amazing and the staff are all super helpful!
This is a great place to stay if you need five bedrooms for family and friends, as it is easy walking distance to the French Quarter. We had little interaction with the owners but they also own the Thai restaurant downstairs, who are willing to help if needed. However, we had no issues other than needing to ask them for some more toilet paper.
We had a a great time in this rental property. We loved the area.and convenience to everything on Frenchman street and the french quarter. You could walk or take a short uber ride to the quarter.
The rental had 5 bedrooms with comfortable beds, linens and plenty of towels.
The showers were clean and hot!
The Thai restaurant food and staff were amazing. You could tell that they love meeting the guests staying upstairs. The owner was super flexible with check in and check out for us which we appreciated so we didnt have to carry our luggage all over new orleans due to our flight times. It doesnt have a full kitchen but who wants to cook in new orleans when you are there to experience the amazing food, music and culture. Would definitely stay at this place again with a large group.
Would stay again and again. The perfect place in NOLA
Fist and most important so clean‼️ we had 8 adults and a crawling baby who was clean even crawling around in a sleeper. We all had separate bedrooms (plus an extra as all were not able to make the trip) and you know how when you stay in other vrbo’s you get a starter roll of TP and paper towels? Nope EVERYTHING you need is there plus cleaning supplies.
The living room/kitchen is in the middle and you can close the doors and people hang out in there while others are sleeping and you can’t hear them. Also the food in the downstairs restaurant is amazing! The location on Royal is away from the hoopla but close enough to walk everywhere we wanted to go! Please know how picky I am and pick this place for your next stay. You will NOT be disappointed!
This property was everything and more! When we were planning this trip, we compared several different properties throughout New Orleans (I’m talking PowerPoint slides, Google forms, Excel spreadsheets, the whole thing) and the group of nine of us eventually landed on this property. I couldn’t be more grateful that we did! When we walked in, someone downstairs in the restaurant greeted us and made sure that we knew that if we needed anything, we could reach out. The rooms are spacious and had such beautiful lighting and views out to the streets below. The kitchen/living area was so well stocked and provided more than enough space for all nine of us to be there at once. The location was excellent and we were able to walk to the French Quarter and Bourbon Street (even though we did uber occasionally) and if we wanted to uber it was always $10-$15 with a tip. The restaurant below is also fantastic! The staff is excellent and we would often pop down for drinks or snacks, and even got dinner there once! I can’t recommend this property enough! It made the whole trip that much more memorable.
The location was great, close to Frenchmen street, walkable. Clean home, great amenities, liked the kitchen area where we could sit and lounge with friends or watch tv. Check-in and out was easy and accessible! Overall would definitely stay here again.
We were in New Orleans from Sunday to Saturday, over the week of Thanksgiving. We traveled with three kids (ages 9. 10 and 11) and 4 adults.
This was a fanastic spot to accommodate our group - there were ample bedrooms, and the common areas were perfect for hanging out or having some quiet time.
We loved the location - close enough to Frenchman Street to easily take in the scene, but far enough away that we weren't bothered by noise. Also close enough to walk around Marigny/Bywater neighborhoods. I'd definitely stay here again!
Mid-20s me would have loved this. Mid-40s me just liked it. It wasn't bad by any means, but it did lack a few luxuries that I'm apparently now accustomed to.
The pros:
- Very well located. We could easily walk to many areas of town. Easy Ubers. Starbucks and several local coffee shops are all within a few blocks. Public transit options are nearby.
- 5 private bedrooms plus a common area. Most 5 bedroom units we looked at were fancier and priced much higher.
- Parking - We didn't have a car, but parking is indeed readily available and free nearby.
- Hosts communication was good. We don't like to ask for stuff and didn't, but felt like we could.
- Flexible checkout times. This obviously can't happen for everyone based on bookings, but we arrived before the appointed time and left well after. The hosts were very accommodating.
The so-so:
- The listing photos and description do not match. The photos show the sofa bed in a private alcove with doors off the Royal Suite. The description has it in the kitchen. The private room no longer exists and the sofa bed is in the kitchen. You have to move the table to pull it out.
- Towels/sheets. We used the sofa bed, and had to gather sheets, blankets, and towels from the other rooms for it. We also could have used more towels and washcloths in general (the sofa bed wasn't allocated any). We absolutely could have asked, but we'd prefer that extras just be there.
- Overall comfort. Some of the beds were nice and others were so-so to uncomfortable. The sheets are thin and didn't stay on my bed well. The towels are clean, but small and thin. Slippers mentioned in the listing did not exist.
- Noise and light. Is it quieter than Frenchman or Bourbon? Absolutely. Is it quiet? Not really. The cars going by are loud and I recommend ear plugs. For me, the biggest issue was the light. 4 of the 5 rooms have blinds, but no curtains. In my room, two very bright streetlights shined on the blinds and made it look like morning all night long. Not just a little light, but a lot. If you like to sleep in the dark and can't stand an eye mask, this is not the place.
- Clean in general, but starting to show that typical VRBO wear in places. We also had a few fruit flies or gnats in the kitchen along with a half drunk bottle of wine from previous guests.
In the end, it's a solid place. If you aren't annoyed by the little things, it's a great and spacious.
My friends and I came Halloween weekend and had an amazing time. It was a short walk to bars and restaurants and we felt safe the entire time. The check in and out process were a breeze. Communication with the property owner was seamless. The showers were great, nice pressure and temperature. There were plenty of towels and the beds were extremely comfortable. On our first night we had dinner downstairs at the Thai restaurant and the food was AMAZING and the staff were very nice. If our stay was longer I def would have eaten there again. The listing made mention of breakfast items in the kitchen but there weren’t any. Not a big deal to us but may be important to others.
We were here for a week and had a great time. Great location. Walking distance to everywhere. Clean. Property owners were very responsive. Would recommend others to choose this property.
Exceeded my expectations.. It was a great spot, beautiful floors and high ceilings give it a very roomy and comfortable feel. The location is awesome, very short walk to Frenchman street whis is possibly the best street we went visited on our travels. The BnB is above the restaurant however its extremely well insulated so there was no notable restaurant noise or food smell Finally the host is very responsive, accommodating, and nice to deal with. I would highly recommend to anyone looking at the area to stay here.
