About the host
Hosted by Marie-Therese Hardy

We started this family business in 2017 with the intention of giving our guests a memorable experience by combining some of the best experiences we have enjoyed from our own travels. We love welcoming guests to Harrogate and sharing our love of North Yorkshire. Being born here, I have lived most of my life in Yorkshire. My husband and I met in London and he continues to commute on a weekly basis. We have three adult children, one of whom is married, and a granddaughter. We live nearby so know the area well. We are passionate regarding our guests and ensuring the best possible experience. We personally meet and greet everyone and are on call 24/7, so you can enjoy your stay with complete ease.
Why they chose this property
We fell in love with this cottage. It was very run down and in need of some major works from a new roof to rewiring and replumbing! However, we saw its potential and knew from the outset that with a complete refurbishment and the addition of 21st century and retro together with antiques of the period we could give our guests a great place to stay whether on business or for a short break or holiday.
The area in which Artists' Place is located is known as High Harrogate and is the original Harrogate.
We particularly liked the interior layout of the cottage, its proportions, the high ceilings and sense of space. We could see that with some careful refurbishment and repairs to the structure we could preserve the cottage for future generations. We hope you like what we have done. We have replaced the roof, completely rewired and replumbed. We replaced the ugly 1960s windows with ones more in keeping with the original design and structure of the building. This meant reinstalling lintels and getting windows manufactured to the latest building regulations whilst retaining the 19th century design.
It's central location in a quiet street with an easy 8 minutes walk to the town centre clinched it for us!
We have had guests staying for protracted periods for work or during house moves. Anna Madeley who plays the housekeeper in All Creature Great and Small has stayed whilst filming in the locale.
