The 'Tramontana' house-museum is a typical Casa a Corte located in an alley in the historic center of Melendugno. The house consists of an entrance courtyard, a living room, a double bedroom, kitchen, bathroom and an internal courtyard. Both outdoor spaces are exclusively available to guests. The interior of the house is furnished with objects and antique furniture that recall the peasant Salento of a century ago. The Court Houses represent the typical way of living in the Salento peasant classes and are found in many Mediterranean countries. In this type of housing, the courtyard is the main element of the house, and is designed as a multifunctional space, used as a workplace, storage and warehouse, shelter for animals and above all a space for socializing, entertainment and play. The interior is carefully furnished with furniture and accessories from our ancestors, recovered from antique markets and old cellars, trying to recall lost lifestyles and to make practices, uses and customs so precious, as forgotten. We therefore recommend our guests to take care of antique objects and furniture.
The house is in the historic center and is just a stone's throw from the town square and the seventeenth-century church of the Immaculate. The historic center of Melendugno is characterized by the presence of frequent medieval court houses consisting of a central courtyard overlooked by the various living areas and the presence of hypogeum mills. The seventeenth-century church of the Immaculate and the square of the church of the M. SS. Assunta certainly deserves a visit, to conclude with the castle of Amely, a baronial palace that looks like a tower on a polygonal base. The alleys of the historic center, where the house is immersed, still enjoy the tranquility, silence and rhythms of the past.
