Beautiful Tuscan Stay
We just had the most amazing week at this incredible 500 year old farmhouse in the Tuscan countryside! Our minds were in awe as we entered this amazing home and even more so as we explored the property! Our three children loved running around, picking the various fruit and vegetables from the garden and we often cooked using ingredients from the veggie patch. The home accommodated us perfectly (4 adults 3 ch) with plenty of room to spare! Gabrielle was the perfect host who welcomed us into the home, despite not speaking a word of English we managed to understand one another just fine. We also had the delight of her cooking us a three course meal. We were a short drive (even walking distance) from the gorgeous town of Sarteano and went there often to shop at the supermarket, get gelato and dine at local restaraunts. We drove into Florence on day, although it’s quite a drive and also went to the thermal pools (also a drive but very much worth it!) We couldn’t have hoped for a more amazing Tuscan experience and feel so happy to have found this magical place in Italy! x
Heaven in Tuscany
Perfection in every way. Absolutely loved staying here and hope to return one day.
Charming Tuscan farm house
We were traveling as a family with 5 adults and 3 children. The house was large and could easily accommodate more guests. The furniture shows its age but everything was clean. The house maid Gabriella was extremely nice but does not speak a word of English. So brush up your Italian for some authentic travel experience. The owner is however very responsive using WhatsApp and closed the communication gap. The washing machine is old and took very long to clean. No dryer, which I understand is common in Italy. The garden is beautiful and good place to enjoy your Wine or tea. Expect a lot of small insects in the garden and spiders and house centipede inside home (this is a farm house). The owner has thoughtfully provided “Baygon” spray.
We liked the town Sarteano, which had a few nice restaurants (all recommended by owner). We discovered “Suzie’s farm” on the way to Cetona, which was a pleasant surprise and one of our highlights. Make reservation with Suzie for a Lunch or dinner tour. In conclusion, we enjoyed the stay and found it a good value for a large group.
We had a wonderful time in both Tuscany and in Vila Moscatelli.
We were a party of nine and we loved the house! The town of Sarteano is charming and quaint. The house is situated in a beautiful spot, close to town to make it convenient but far enough that makes it quiet and relaxing . Perhaps our favorite thing about the house is the view and the beautiful gardens. We arrived the second week of April and Spring is just starting but with a couple of warm days the trees and flowers started to bloom! The house itself is beautiful and old with so many interesting little corners to discover. We were with five teenaged children and never felt cramped and all of us had our privacy. We cooked many meals in the kitchen, and while the oven was a challenge everything else was easy. Gabriella, the caretaker was prompt and friendly and met us at the house with fresh flowers and a beautiful cake. She didn’t speak a lot of English but we managed to communicate just fine. Overall, we had a lovely time and would stay again!
Beautiful and unique place to stay
I stayed here with my spouse, mother-in-law, and 2 young children (3 years and 5 years old) for 5 nights. We had a wonderful time. The house is very spacious, and the property is stunning. We enjoyed the character of the home so much... the spiral staircase, the fireplace (it smoked some into the house, but I've been assured it doesn't typically do this), playing checkers on the game table, the archways and stone walls. We also loved the property - playing tag with my daughters in the olive grove, watching them swing together on the swing from a giant tree, and enjoying the sunrise over an expansive scene of hills and olive groves.
Giada is a great host, very responsive and helpful in every way.
The only thing is that renters should consider that there are additional fees for heat/electricity/firewood and cleaning, as mentioned in the homeaway listing. For us, cleaning was 150 euros and the heat/electricity/firewood came out to just under 190 euros (for 5 days in late November... perhaps it would be less during another time of year that is warmer). Still totally worth it, but it's good to have a clearer idea of numbers going into the rental.
All in all, it was a magical stay, and we are so grateful we found this beautiful villa for our days in Tuscany.
We absolutely loved this home and our stay there!
We absolutely LOVED our stay at this home. It is beautiful!!! It is very comfortable and family friendly. We had 9 adults and 2 babies on this trip. The view is amazing and the grounds are so well kept. We enjoyed veggies from the garden and ripe, delicious figs from the fig trees. It is so serene and peaceful, truly the best of the Tuscany area. The location was ideal for our day trips to Sienna, Assisi and Orvieto. The town of Sarteano, which is a short 3 minute drive, is charming! We enjoyed a most delicious dinner there at the Da Gagliano Restaurant and there is a delicious coffee and gelato bar there too - Pegaso Bar. We also enjoyed cooking our own meals in the well equipped kitchen and eating breakfast and dinner on the spacious table outside.
Giada was always kind, patient and available to answer any questions that we had. Our only regret was that we could not stay longer! We highly recommend this home - we hope to stay there again.
Sarteano is a busy village near Siena. It offers you over half a dozen eateries as well as banks, bars and all the shops you could need. You can drive there or hop on a bus or walk (takes 15 minutes from the villa). You’re deep in the fairy tale landscape of Tuscany, but handily placed for shopping, eating out or sightseeing. Villa Moscatelli is roughly an hour’s drive from the medieval glories of picture perfect Siena, the charms of Etruscan Arezzo, and the Umbrian hill-top town town of Orvieto (justly famous for its ornate cathedral and its fulsome white wines). Closer to home, a 30 minute drive to the East will get you to the the cute little ferry boats of Lake Trasimeno to putter you around Italy’s 4th largest lake - take a picnic, explore the little islands and swim from the tiny beaches! 30 minutes to the West you’ll find the world class red wines and winding streets of atmospheric Montepulciano to tempt you from your sunbed. If you want to visit Florence or Rome for a day, why not let the train take the strain? From Chiusi train station - only 14 km from your garden - you can be in Rome or Florence well within a couple of hours on Italy’s cheap and efficient trains (and you won’t be worrying about city driving or the nightmare of finding a parking space!).
