Carbon neutral, luxury eco barn conversion with stunning sea/mountain viewsviews
Spacious 3 bedroom self catering holiday let in the South Lakes, sleeps 6 people. Minimum rental 3 nights. We are unable to accommodate children under 4 for safety reasons. This semi detached barn conversion is located on a working sheep farm. Accommodation is over three floors with open plan kitchen and living spaces and generous bedroom accommodation. Upper ground floor houses a spacious living area with breathtaking views over the Duddon estuary and surrounding mountains through a large, double height, picture window, a fantastic space to watch an often dramatic sunset.
The kitchen and dining spaces at lower ground level connect with an intimate landscaped patio ideal for bbqs.
It is just a short walk to the friendly local pub in Grizebeck village, serving meals and real ale. A footpath runs past the property giving access to Kirkby Moor, Great Burney Fell and beyond. Both tops provide wonderful views north to the central Lake district peaks and south over Morecambe Bay.

The house was so spacious and lovely for our group of 5! We made full use of the kitchen and outdoor BBQ, aswell as exploring the local surroundings! Would highly recommend to anyone looking for a getaway!
A beautiful property to stay, beautiful views from all windows, spotlessly clean , friendly people good location and everything you need for a great holiday Thankyou
An excellent stay in a beautiful green part of the country
A very warm and comfortable cottage, larger than many. With great views from the picture windows. The host lived next door and was very helpful and friendly.
It’s best to get detailed instructions from the owner before you arrive as the location is secluded and the entrance to the lane rather hidden off a fast main road.
Great property on 3 floors, nice spacious bedrooms and bathrooms and the views are great from all the windows. Nice little touch from the host leaving us a welcome card and fresh flowers on the table. Would definitely recommend and would stay again. Thank you
We loved our stay in the Lakes and really enjoyed the fantastic views this property
has to offer. The cottage itself is lovely and clean and has everything you could want. We had fantastic weather and enjoyed BBQs on the patio as well as a great meal at the local pub. The hosts were lovely and gave us some great advice on where to go. We had the best time and would not hesitate to come back!!
We walked in to an architect designed home and then we saw the view! I won't say any more, you have to experience this property for yourself! From sunrise until sunset you'll take pictures of the view all day. This isn't a run of the mill holiday rental... Modernised, spacious, cleverly designed with the luxury you'd find in a hotel and much more. I hope I get the chance to go back again, the owners were friendly, helpful, talkative and gave good guidance on local walks and amenities. All round great service, Thanks for making it a good stay

About the host
Hosted by Lindsay Wilkinson
Lindsay is a retired counsellor, in addition to running our holiday let, she is a keen ukulele player, walker and cook. She will usually be on hand to welcome guests with homemade scones or cake. John is Cumbria born and bred. A retired architect he has returned home to enjoy walking and mountaineering in his favourite part of the world. We live in the adjoining house and are usually available to answer any questions or queries.
Why they chose this property
We had spent many years searching for a property in the South Lakes. Sturdy Bank Barn came up for auction in 2010, it was in very poor condition and in need of complete renovation - just what John was looking for. The result is a property with a contemporary style incorporating original features and natural materials. It provides a light, spacious, airy and comfortable living environment. We consider ourselves very fortunate to live in such a beatiful location and never tire of the constantly changing views and stunning sunsets.
What makes this property unique
Sturdy Bank Barn is located in a quieter corner of the Lake District yet is within easy reach of the central lakes and the wilder western valleys of Eskdale and Wasdale. The latter offer in our view the best walking in the Lakes and hikers have access to the highest Lakeland Peaks. Immediately on our doorstep is the hidden gem of the Duddon Valley, no lake, just quiet, beautiful landscape that is missed by most visitors.
